James Ward-Prowse is like the modern-day David Beckham

That's all about the delivery from Ward-Prowse.

He's put it in near-post, with pace, with whip and Jan Bedbarek gets above everybody, slight glance and the pace was already on the ball and it's enough to get past David De Gea.

Bruno Fernandes lines one up from range. He's more than capable and goes very close, fizzing his shot just past the post. It actually took a slight touch of a Saints player, so the danger isn't averted yet...

Fernandes is just off the pitch at the moment, getting a bit of treatment after that foul.

Southampton are struggling to get a foothold right now. Their cause isn't helped when the ref awards United a free-kick following a heavy challenge on Bruno Fernandes by Oriel Romeu.

Marcus Rashford is down and we're having a VAR review for a potential penalty. I'd be surprised if this is given, with James Ward-Prowse's challenge hardly vicious, but who knows these days. He did catch the United striker slightly. And I point you to Welbeck yesterday.

That should have been one-nil to Manchester United.

I don't think the keeper realised Mason Greenwood was coming because he was that quick.

I don't think even the defenders saw him.

Manchester United have come with the gameplan to match Southampton in the midfield, Wolves did that last week, they packed the middle fo the pitch.

It's a bright start from Manchester United.

High energy and tempo and Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are looking to combin early-on.

Manchester United should be ahead.

Alex McCarthy takes a huge gamble, charging out of is line to try and gather the ball ahead of Mason Greenwood. He is well short, though, which allows the United striker to go round him and give himself an unguarded net to shoot at. It is a tight angle but he should still probably find it. Instead, his effort is into the sidenetting.

Nice little bit of positive play around the Southampton box just fails to yield a shot from the visitors. Marcus Rashford was the player most likely, but it is a testament to the work of the Saints back-line that he is denied.

Manchester United have changed their shape to accommodate Southampton.

I think that's a compliment to Saints.
