I did wonder that, it's some lay-off! He's still only 31 as well!

Theo's first league goal for the Saints in 15 years. Surely that has to be some sort of record?!

Raul Jimenez is just not on it tonight. He takes a total air shot at the ball when a solid touch would have played him in on goal.

Nicholas Alexander: This Walcott lad looks a very promising young player.
Ait Nouri's ego and theatrics costing us. Man down on the left hand side where the goal was set up. All because he didn't get up and help out. Don't think Jonny would be staying down there

Surely two.....no! Unfortunately that's the sort of finishing that has too often been Theo Walcott's trademark. I mean he's got 76 Premier League goals so that's a bit harsh but he never truly convinces...
Che Adams puts him in clean through on goal, great pass, he's running clear with just the keeper to beat - and puts it wide.

Just not clicking for Wolves as Adama Traore again breaks the lines with that direct run but his cross is cut out. When they're at their best those land on the head of Raul Jimenez and fly into the back of the net.

Saints are up to third as it stands. Le Tiss, Rod Wallace stuff...

Theo Walcott in that 'Position of Maximum Opportunity' at the far post. He cannot miss, a couple of yards out, easy finish, right-footed, swept in and I think Southampton deserve this. They have been the better team.
Wolves 0-1 Southampton
Wolves were appealing for a foul in the build-up but there was nothing in it. Soft.
Good play from Che Adams and some slack defending - punished.
Theo Walcott (58 mins)
Breakthrough! Theo Walcott has been as lively as anyone all night and he has his first league goal for the Saints in 15 years. He starts off in the middle and drifts across the front line, meaning he's absolutely free at the far post to tap in Che Adams' low ball across from the right of the area.
A gift!

Raúl Jiménez...hands on head. He is normally ruthless from that position, seven yards out. He saw the cross all the way. That's a big opportunity for Wolves.
Globally known? Are you sure?

Paul Salmon: The best kit and badge? Easily Blackburn Rovers. 94-95. Classic blue & white halved design, historical, original, globally known, imitated worldwide, never bettered. The badge? Historic Red Rose of Lancs, plus a bit of Latin: Arte Et Labore - by skill and hard work.
Are there any other teams Alan Shearer has played for that had a classic kit (England 1996, maybe)?

Minor point, but the Peru national team (first established in 1927) chose their kit after the Saints (established 1885). Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all that...

Good play and another good save from Alex McCarthy! Rayan Ait-Nouri pings a smart early ball in from the left and Daniel Podence has the speed to get away from his man. He lashes in hard at the near post and McCarthy makes a strong save.
Raul Jimenez then gets his angles all wrong and squirts a header acoss goal. Signs of life!
Wolves 0-0 Southampton
If it stays like this then Wolves will be ninth and Saints fifth in the early table. Wolves are just six points off top though, it's looking as tight as it ever gets.
Adama Traore with typical pace but his end product is no good - over cooked.

Theo Walcott is lively in the first minute of the half again, winning a good flick on and then flashing in a cross from the right but that's too long for Che Adams.
