An update from the Prime Minister.

A new Tier 4 has been introduced in London and the south east of England, and Boris Johnson says he is asking everyone in all tiers to "stay local".

"It is with a heavy heart that we cannot continue with Christmas as planned," he goes on to say.

In Tier 4 people will have to stay home, and across the rest of the country Christmas rules allowing three households to mix are now limited to Christmas Day only.

Southampton are seeing plenty of the ball in the City box.

Nathan Redmond gets a pass on the edge of the box but fluffs his lines,

The ball skips up off the turf, Raheem Sterling's body and hits him on the arm.

    But no penalty.

    Not sure why not.

Has Raheem Sterling handled in the box?

Mike Dean says no, Southampton want a penalty.

    Jermaine Beckford
Ex-Leeds Utd striker on Final Score

Last season, he would have had the confidence to wrap his laces around that one. I was surprised to see that Silva didn’t take it on earlier, he took too many steps.

A change for Southampton, Moussa Djenepo is replaced by Nathan Redmond.

Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

Let's not beat around it, that should have been 2-0! They take too many touches. If Bernando Silva had just hit it with his right foot, that would have been 2-0 but he took an extra touch and scuffed the shot. That's why Pep Guardiola is fuming.

I think with Bernando Silva going into the middle, he'll try and pull one of the centre-halves out and that's where Ferran Torres has just said put the ball in behind because he'll do a diagonal run and try and catch them out.

  11. CLOSE!published at 53 mins

    Southampton 0-1 Man City

It is almost brilliant from Manchester City.

Kevin de Bruyne exchanges passes with Raheem Sterling before feeding Bernardo Silva but the Portuguese's shot from his very weak right boot causes no trouble for Alex McCarthy.

    Should have buried it really.

Pep has obviously said to them that they should not stop what they are doing. Both teams have come out flying and the second half will be a good one.

    Southampton 0-1 Man City

Southampton played well in that first half, can they keep it going?

They need to test Ederson a little more but that Ruben Dias-John Stones partnership has been solid for City this season.

  14. CLOSE!published at 47 mins

    Southampton 0-1 Man City

City almost double their lead immediately after the restart.

Speedy Spaniard Ferran Torres whizzes down the right and flash a shot across goal and narrowly wide.

Terrific signing, a snip at £20m-odd.

    Southampton 0-1 Man City

    Karen Carney
Former England and Chelsea winger on BBC Radio 5 Live

It's been an entertaining game. The intensity is top drawer, end-to-end at times, the pace of the passing. It's just the final third, more so from Southampton because they have been in the 18-yard box quite a lot with no results.

Credit goes to John Stones and Ruben Dias, who have been very good for Manchester City in defence today.

    Southampton 0-1 Man City

    Jermaine Beckford
Ex-Leeds Utd striker on Final Score

Southampton have not gone into their shell, they have continued to do what they were doing and City look uncomfortable. And this is the Theo Walcott we’ve wanted to see for five or six years. Cancelo hates playing against him – he’s been the best player on the park.

  20. 'Liverpool punished every mistake'published at 15:58 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2020

    Crystal Palace 0-7 Liverpool

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace captain Luka Milivojevic to BT Sport: "It's hard to speak after a defeat like that, they were so clinical.

"They punished every mistake, opened the game well, we were in it after that and had chances. We should have scored at half time.

"I didn’t feel we deserved to be losing 3-0, we tried to come back but it was a brutal result. 7-0 is a very bad feeling.

"We have a lot of experience, the problem is we don’t have players who have conceded that many goals.

"That’s football, that’s the level of the Premier League. Next week we go to Villa, try to turn around the vibe and get some points. You can’t do more than that."
