That will be heartbreaking for Sheffield United. When you are down there that's just what happens - just people being in the wrong place, or one mistake, it costs you.

Brighton instantly win another free-kick in a similar position but the Blades manage to deal with this one.

Could we yet get a winner?

GOAL - Brighton 1-1 Sheffield Unitedpublished at 13:45 Greenwich Mean Time 20 December 2020

    Danny Welbeck (87 mins)

The pressure finally does tell! Brighton play that free-kick short, Leandro Trossard then whips it in to a very crowded penalty area.

Chris Basham just about wins the first contact but the ball lands in the path of Danny Welbeck, who controls sharply on his chest and then thumps home from a matter of three or four yards out.

    No chance Aaron Ramsdale.

    Brighton 0-1 Sheffield United

Five minutes or so for the 10 men to hold on for what would be a massive win. A first win.

Chris Wilder can be proud of their display now whatever happens. Ben Osborn goes into the book for hauling over Leandro Trossard.

  7. CLOSE!published at 84 mins

    Brighton 0-1 Sheffield United

And now a great chance for the Blades! Route one, Oliver Burke flicks on a goal-kick, Ben Osborn plays it back to him, he surges into the area but his balance is going and he ends up shooting as he falls and blazes over the bar.

Brighton then instantly win a corner. This is great stuff, tension wise!

  8. SITTER!published at 84 mins

    Brighton 0-1 Sheffield United

Oh how has he missed?! That was the chance!

A cross from the right comes in, Aaron Ramsdale in the Blades goal is tempted to come out and claim it but he can't quite reach it.

It falls on to the head of Aaron Connolly - just head it into the empty net! - but he closes his eyes on it and sends it over.

Well done Jayden Bogle again! Don't think his first Premier League start will be far away as he shuts down Andi Zeqiri on the wing and stops the cross from coming in.

Brighton don't appear to have much of a Plan B.

  10. CLOSE!published at 78 mins

    Brighton 0-1 Sheffield United

Brighton take a corner short, Solly March shoots and it's deflected into the side-netting. From the follow-up Adam Webster wins the header but it's straight at Aaron Ramsdale.

Ooooh this could be a horrible last 15 minutes for anyone of a Sheffield United persuasion...

Jayden Bogle does really well again to break up a Brighton attack and move the Blades down the right-hand side. He's impressed since coming on for sure. Can Brighton find a way through?

I love you dearly Brighton but if you can't beat Sheffield at home with 10 men you are going down and you off my xmas card list.

They have finally shown the replay of the goal with the VAR lines - it was Oliver Burke who looked to be offside in the build-up but he was played on by Solly March on the opposite side of the pitch. What a well-worked move it was too.

For all of their possesion - 71% of it - Brighton have had the same number of shots on target as the visitors. Just three.

The genius is making another change - Ben Osborn is coming on for David McGoldrick. Who did really well to set up that goal but Osborn is more of a natural fit on the left.

Brighton send on Andi Zeqiri as well.

Marcus: Of course, the defender who comes on to replace the £23.5m striker scores. Wilder's clearly a genius.

Potter has to go. Brighton have made no progress since he replaced Hughton. Reminds me of Bournemouth last year, pretty football with no end product.

Worst team in premier league history? 9th last season which is better than Brighton have ever done from what I recall.

And that's a smart stop now at the other end. Brighton pile forwards, Adam Webster moves the ball on to his left foot and cannons in a shot with real venom and Aaron Ramsdale pushes it over the bar.
