Ah, Pascal Gross should do better there!

    Corner to Southampton.

Mat Ryan punches the initial cross clear but Stuart Armstrong sends the ball back in from the right and Danny Ings almost conjures something from nothing, repositioning himself at the last minute to send a glanced header narrowly over the bar.

    That's what he can do.

It was a lovely touch from Ings to release Armstrong. Walcott is not far away there.

Both sides are battling hard at the Amex. This really could go either way.

Southampton move the ball forward to Theo Walcott, who unleashes a lovely, whipped shot from outside the penalty area which isn't far away at all. Good attempt.

  9. YELLOW CARDpublished at 56 mins

Agree with that, Conor. Plenty to admire in both these sides.

A perfectly timed opinion, as Lewis Dunk goes into the book for a strong challenge on Che Adams.

Both these teams deserve a lot of credit, both play good football, both have quality in important areas, Brighton will soon climb the table and I can see Southampton continuing to do well.

Danny Welbeck is back involved in the action, swivelling to set Solly March away on the left, but March can't pick out a team-mate in the middle.

It's a shame. That was a slick move by the hosts.

That's a sore one for Danny Welbeck. Both players have their eyes on the ball. Jan Bednarek just gets their first.

Danny Welbeck goes down holding his shoulder after a challenge by Jan Bednarek.

The Saints defender came flying in to head clear, but Welbeck was hit hard in the process.

He's up and seems fine to continue.

Jannik Vestergaard isn't just good in the air - here he is trying to weave his way into the Brighton box!

But his attempted low cross is blocked.

I think that challenge needed to be made by Romeu. Pascal Gross was about to play that killer pass into Danny Welbeck to put him in on goal.

  16. YELLOW CARDpublished at 48 mins

Oriol Romeu concedes a free-kick and receives a booking right at the start of the second half.

Pascal Gross whips it in towards Lewis Dunk but Southampton are awarded a free-kick after a shove in the box.

Not sure we expected Danny Ings to be reintroduced so early, but here he is and he is undoubtedly a player who can make the difference for Southampton tonight.

Moussa Djenepo was walking a fine line on his yellow card.

Simeon: All I want for Christmas is for Brighton to be able to defend a set piece. That's why we are where are rather than where Southampton are.
