I can't help you there but we may get a clarification email from Stockley Park soon.

Emi Martinez keeps it a 1-0 with an excellent low save to push out Joao Cancelo's shot.

Simon Hayes: Can all the 6pm games be this good please?

Tom Sharpe: HOW CAN YOU GIVE THAT? Mings had to touch it because of the City player, who then came and tackled him, was offside.

Daddy M&N: Can someone explain how that goal was allowed to stand?

Here we go, the first time we've seen the replay from side on. Well, Rodri is only about 35 yards offside when that was headed forwards.

Tyrone Mings then chested it down, Rodri comes in and tackles him and City score.

    Errrrr - that's offside surely?

Sam Hartles: The city player was offside when the ball was headed. Mings touched it once and was tackled by the offside player, which then makes him offside. VAR didn’t even check it. That’s disgraceful from the officials.

Keithmc: Totally agree with Dean Smith. Should have been given as offside.

The Aston Villa players are upset because Rodri was in an offside position. Mings takes a touch then Rodri takes the ball off him and then starts the attack.

Mings should be clearing this lines, anyway...

As the ball comes back to Tyrone Mings, he takes a touch but then Rodri gets involved.

If he doesn't get given, then Mings should clear the ball. I don't know why he is taking a chance and chesting it.

  9. RED CARD - Dean Smithpublished at 19:40 Greenwich Mean Time 20 January 2021

    Manchester City 1-0 Aston Villa

Well the goal stands, we didn't even get a VAR replay - but Villa are not happy.

So much so that Jon Moss comes over and books manager Dean Smith for his complaints. Smith isn't done though and keeps on going and sees red!

A good night to get inside early on at least.

    Bernardo Silva (79 mins)

    WHALLOP!

Well it was only a matter of time before we had a goal and it's an absolute rocket.

Tyrone Mings loses the ball to Rodri - was he coming back from an offside position? Villa aren't happy - and it runs to Bernardo Silva.

He takes a touch and absolutely leathers it into the top corner. Superb strike!

With the all chances that we are seeing, I'm worried that the game is actually going to end 0-0 now!

This is a great watch, no idea how it's still goalless. Ilkay Gundogan now hits in a deflected cross which skims across about four heads and just misses the far post...

Simon Atkins: Aguero would have had a field day had he been available, how Man City haven't scored I will never know.

Ross Barkley is right up there with Pogba as the most frustrating talent around. Unbelievable technically but such inconsistent decision making.

Gabriel Jesus needs to be in that box. City are creating chances and Phil Foden looks the most likely down the left to create something. He's causing Matty Cash a lot of problems. He's been outstanding this evening.

True that, mine has gone unwalked today for the first time in months.

Anyone sneaking a late goal? Well Jacob Ramsey nearly does for Villa but somehow Ruben Dias clears the ball away from in front of him.

John McGinn then miskicks - a great opening for Villa!

You have to credit Aston Villa, they are defending for their lives at the minute. City are knocking at the door. It's attack, attack, attack!

Phil Foden will do well to have a better game than this without contributing to the score, another weaving run sees him beat two men and lash the ball across but Villa somehow clear.

Riyad Mahrez is on for Raheem Sterling.
