It’s a ridiculous finish and another great run. The first touch gave Minamino the opportunity to hit it on his left foot.
He smashes it right into the roof of the net. It’s a great reaction from Southampton, but what was Shelvey thinking with the free-kick?

Daft Penguin: Bednarek is NOT having a good week, is he?
Danny Jamieson: Hope Jan Bednarek saved his game before Tuesday night. Just quit and reload mate, nobody's gonna judge you
Takumi Minamino
Super goal.
The on-loan man brings Southampton back into the game.
Takumi Minamino takes a pass and in one motion zips past Isaac Hayden and into the box.
He has plenty to do from the angle, there is only one place he can put it and how he manages to do so, smashing a left-footed drive into the top left corner of the net.
Karl Darlow had no chance with that one.

We talked about Saint-Maximin’s awareness, but it was great support from Almiron.
He drilled it across the goal and hoped for the best. There’s a slice of luck involved but it’s all about the desire to get forward.
Burnley 0-0 Brighton
Burnley are really coming alive now as Robert Sanchez saves Brighton again, this time blocking James Tarkowski's effort from close range following a corner.
Burnley 0-0 Brighton
Oooh good save by Robert Sanchez as Dwight McNeil squeezes a free kick through the Brighton wall, Sanchez sees it late but gets down to push behind at his near post.
Jan Bednarek (own goal)
Oh deary me, Southampton will be wishing that red card was not overturned.
Jan Bednarek scores an own goal for the second consecutive game, unable to sort his feet out in the six yard box and diverting Miguel Almiron's low cross into his own net.
What a week for Bednarek, two own goals and a red card and this game still has over and hour to play.
Newcastle 1-0 Southampton
Southampton are creating chance, another one falls Danny Ings' way as the ball loops into the box but the header lacks power and is straight at Karl Darlow.

David Ljunggren: I bet in hindsight Southampton wish Bednarek hadn’t won the appeal against his red card. That was awful defending in the run up to the goal
Ethiopia_Link: May be Arsenal is selling/loaning the wrong players.
Amazing how things happen for Newcastle when the plan is to attack quickly! Great goal for Willock and ASM.

Javier Manquillo can only last for 22 minutes and is replaced by Emil Krafth at the back for Newcastle.
Newcastle 1-0 Southampton
Lovely stuff from Southampton, cutting Newcastle open at the back.
Che Adams slips a pass through to Danny Ings on goal, but the England striker's low shot is kept out by Karl Darlow standing big.
A good save.
Burnley 0-0 Brighton
Johann Gudmundsson goes for the spectacular as he arcs his body to try and hook a shot into the net from the edge of the box but the connection is not good and the ball flies well over.

Redmond has been getting in some great positions, cutting inside and spraying the ball around.
It’s been a good reaction by Southampton.
Newcastle 1-0 Southampton
Only Matt Longstaff (19 years & 199 days - v Man Utd in Oct 2019) has scored on his Premier League debut for Newcastle at a younger age than Joe Willock (21y & 170d).

Garth Crooks
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker on Final Score
Jan Bednarek should have competed better. This is what Newcastle have been missing, someone of Allan Saint-Maximin's ability and pace, and when you've got that sort of ability defenders give you a little bit more space because they're fearful that you're going to expose them.
Newcastle 1-0 Southampton
Newcastle full-back Javier Manquillo looks in some trouble here, down on the turf for the second time in as many minutes.
He is limping very heavily and Steve Bruce might be forced into an early change.
Newcastle 1-0 Southampton
Southampton are getting themselves into some decent positions in the final third but just cannot get that last pass right.

Alex Scott
Former England and Arsenal defender on Final Score
It wasn't a great ball from midfield but Allan Saint-Maximin turns an average ball into a good ball, and once he's in that area his ability to put his head up and pick out his player - it's well played.
Joe Willock's game time was limited at Arsenal, so I think this loan move is great if he can continue to flourish. He's aready added a different dimension to this Newcastle attack.
Burnley 0-0 Brighton
Ben Mee slides in late on Neal Maupay and Brighton have a free kick right on the edge of the Burnley area. Mee is booked and Brighton have a chance from a decent position but Pascal Gross drives the ball across the face of goal.
