    Burnley 0-0 Brighton

A shot on target would be some progress for Burnley in this game, given they haven't managed any in their last two. They have started well but all the possession is in midfield in these early stages.

Minamino to score two or three today just to add to Jurgen's head-scratching dilemmas? Usually the way it goes.

    Newcastle 0-0 Southampton

    Alex Scott
Former England and Arsenal defender on Final Score

Over the last two games we've seen a slight improvement [from Newcastle]. They're taking more experiments in terms of being on the front foot and taking the game to the opposition. Allan Saint-Maximin is huge for them, his link-up play and the way he drives at the opponents.

A nice passage of play and Danny Ings is almost in but Fabian Schar cuts it out.

    Burnley v Brighton (15:00 GMT)

    Garth Crooks
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker on Final Score

Whenever Brighton do well, Lewis Dunk is at the heart of their success. He was magnificent at Anfield, magnificent. Dan Burn has been a revelation. He's big and gangly but he covers that left side very well. They have surprised me a bit, Brighton. I didn't think they were capable of going to Anfield and getting a result.

Burnley rely enormously on Ben Mee and James Tarkowski, those two at the back. Looking at the league table, Fulham have scored more goals and so have West Brom. It's difficult to stay in this league if you don't score goals.

  7. 'We were the better team'published at 14:56 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

    Arsenal

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta told BBC Sport: “I’m extremely disappointed to lose and the way we lost it. We were the better team. We controlled every department but we gave them the ball. We gave them another three big chances. Then when we had to score the goal, we didn’t find the right pass or the right shot.

"They were better in the boxes and that’s how you win games. We created enough opportunities. We didn’t score, we cannot win the game.

"We just gave them the ball, a moment you make a mistake and they punish you.

"You cannot win football matches if every week you do something like that. Four or five times we’ve played with 10 men. Against Wolves, we deserved to win both games by far but we lost both.

"[Red cards] cost us that game [against Wolves] - today other big decisions. Regardless of what the referee did today we should win the game comfortably.”

You can see it's all starting to click for Brighton. Their style of play, how they're moving the ball and their belief in the manager. They've got players now coming into form at just the right time.

You can lose away to Wolves and Villa, especially when the first game is the ref's fault and in the second you shoot yourself in the foot. I fear we're coming from too far back now but I still back Arteta.

Willian was good at Chelsea, maybe it's the team he's playing in now that makes him look very average.

  11. 'These players like to make history'published at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Dean Smith to BBC Sport: “That’s the first time we’ve done the double over Arsenal since the inception of the Premier League in 1992-93. These players like to make history as we’ve seen in the last couple of years.

“It was a real hard-working performance. We got away from that against West Ham on Wednesday. We’ve got the quality to score goals but that was more like us – a real dogged display against a good offensive team.

“We started at a good intensity. We charged down balls from Arsenal and pounced on errors.”

On whether Europe is possible: “We’re not looking that far ahead. People talk about that and you fall flat on your face against West Ham."

Francis Edwards: Arteta hasn’t improved Arsenal, they are worse now than when under Emery - they were much more fun to watch them, they had firepower going forward. Arsenal are tighter defensively but they just don’t score. Also don’t understand the Smith Rowe hype.

TremendousMatty: Oh here we go again. The Arteta 'out' doom-mongers are out in their droves again. The squad isn't good enough. Arsenal fans should be delighted with mid-table. You honestly think this lot are good enough for the top six?

Craig Smith: Arsenal can have any no complaints about this result. Have not been ruthless at all. Feel like that Wolves injustice has just knocked us of our season recovery. Questions must be asked about Arteta tactics. Season over.

  13. '9-0 is devastating'published at 14:49 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    Newcastle v Southampton (15:00 GMT)

    Garth Crooks
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker on Final Score

Losing 9-0 is devastating. It's about confidence, and your confidence takes a big hit - you've got to get it back quickly. If Southampton can somehow recompose themselves and start well, they could get out of it, but it's a tall order.

  14. 'A tough ask for Saints'published at 14:47 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    Newcastle v Southampton (15:00 GMT)

    Curtis Davies
Derby defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

You want minimal analysis on the Man United game because it’s a 9-0 defeat. If you pick the bones out of every goal, it’s going to be detrimental. In training you need to get Ings having shots on goal and defenders getting tackles in, just to simplify things a little.

It’s a tough ask for Southampton today because everyone’s heads are on the ground. They need to make sure they put it to bed and hopefully be the team that everyone was giving credit to earlier in the season.

Southampton's defeat to Man United puts more pressure on Newcastle, but having Allan Saint-Maximin back and having Willock in the team - that attacking impetus can help them.

Hopefully that can make their defence more relaxed so they can go and get a clean sheet.

  15. 'We must show our other face'published at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    Newcastle v Southampton (15:00 GMT)

    Southampton

Southampton manager Ralph Hassenhuttl speaking to BT Sport: “We have a few more options now. It is important to work on our game plan, this is the first good signal, having a few players back.

"I don't want to say we have experience of losing with such a result, it was a different situation and moment. We know the issues we had so it was not so difficult to build them up. Hopefully we show a good reaction, I think it is necessary. We have 29 points so far and we must show our other face."

The state of these two teams...

Newcastle have lost six of their past seven league games, their only victory in 13 league and cup matches came at Everton in on 30 January.

Meanwhile, Southampton can equal the club top-flight record of five successive defeats and their only victory in nine Premier League games came against Liverpool on 4 January.

    FT: Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

    Garth Crooks
Former Tottenham Hotspur striker on Final Score

It looked to me as though Arsenal should have got something out of this game. Arsenal have been pretty impressive for me, last few games - after a shaky start they seem to be coming good. Mikel Arteta seems to be putting a lot of faith in the youngsters but today they seemed to not quite have the cutting edge.

  19. 'We needed a big reaction'published at 14:37 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2021

    Aston Villa 1-0 Arsenal

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa goalscorer Ollie Watkins, speaking to BT Sport: "It's a big result. We've played some good stuff but not got the results so delighted today. We had to grind it out and that's what it's all about.

"We were a bit off it against West Ham and they punished us for that so we needed a big reaction and we showed that out there.

"We have to just focus on the next game. Europe is a long way away, hopefully we just keep plugging away and see where we are at the end of the season."

On his goal: "There was a bit of confusion from Arsenal at the back, I hit it with my left foot and it hit a defender and went in."

Another game where we’ve dominated possession, played okay but still lost!

    Bill, Sheffield

Arsenal playing some of their best football in the past few years, Odegaard looks like a gem. Can't keep conceding in the first minute or getting red cards though.

    Tom

We have done so much good, getting back up the table to still challenge for a top six spot, but we keep playing Willian. He needs to be gone, otherwise we will never move forward.
