What is it with Manchester City and penalties at Anfield?!

Ilkay Gundogan has been in the scoring form of his life but now steps up and plonks his penalty miles over the bar and into the vacant Kop.

Curtis Jones wants to get on the ball all the time. He just wants to get in between the lines and looks to get forward all the time. He plays in the half-spaces so well.

That's a fine effort though! Ruben Dias of all people makes the rick with a poor header out, it goes straight to Roberto Fimino on the edge of the area and he lashes in a drive. Dipping, hit very hard, but straight and Ederson makes the save.

From the corner City nearly break through Phil Foden but Curtis Jones has the pace to get back and recover it.

First big chance of the game. Mane will be disapppointed he hasn't hit the target there - it's great play from Trent Alexander-Arnold out on the right-hand side. He keeps the ball in ever so well, shows great desire, then beats the full-back and just drives it in towards the penalty spot. Cancelo had to do better there.

The only goal Liverpool have conceded in their last nine games came from a Ben Tozer long throw. Where's this coach Liverpool have got?

I want to see Gini Wijnaldum windmilling one into the box.

City are playing some superbly-drilled football, popping it about neatly and precisely but so far they aren't turning any of it into chances or excitement.

Lots of neat possession but not too much penetration from Liverpool and Manchester City as yet. Liverpool really pressing in on the City defence and keeper Ederson but that early yellow card for Thiago will be a concern with so much of this game to go.

Certainly plenty of noise from both sets of players out there.

If you like this sort of thing then yes, it is. Ruben Dias is some player isn't he?

Liverpool counter, City look in trouble momentarily but Dias ragdolls Roberto Firmino, takes the ball from him, sprays a pass out wide and then charges up through the middle to get on the end of it and start an attack.
