What is it with Manchester City and penalties at Anfield?!
Ilkay Gundogan has been in the scoring form of his life but now steps up and plonks his penalty miles over the bar and into the vacant Kop.
Awful.
Liverpool 0-0 Manchester City
Big moment!
Raheem Sterling jags in from the left, he goes between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Thiago, cuts across Fabinho who lifts up both of his legs and makes contact with both. Penalty!

Curtis Jones wants to get on the ball all the time. He just wants to get in between the lines and looks to get forward all the time. He plays in the half-spaces so well.
Liverpool 0-0 Manchester City
The home side are probing away, Curtis Jones almost finds Trent Alexander-Arnold in the area but it's well cleared. Liverpool's goal drought at home continues.

Livepool are coming into the game. They're getting the ball out wide and starting to create one or two good stuations in Manchester City's final third.

It has been a cagey first half hour but Liverpool have had a couple of openings, which will really encourage them. Manchester City are getting into good positions but that final ball is escaping them.
Liverpool 0-0 Manchester City
Liverpool ramping up the tempo and the intensity. They are on top now.

Khan Karn: Jones has been non existant. Thiago giving away too many balls. This game requires the leadership of Milner and dribbling ability of Oxlade-Chamberlain. Hope they come on
merrall_ryan: Liverpool look the same as the past few weeks, yes we miss the midfielders in the middle but it's poor decision making for the final pass that's been costing us I feel like, they frustrate themselves and then the goal in eventually because they haven't got the CBs
Liverpool 0-0 Manchester City
That's a fine effort though! Ruben Dias of all people makes the rick with a poor header out, it goes straight to Roberto Fimino on the edge of the area and he lashes in a drive. Dipping, hit very hard, but straight and Ederson makes the save.
From the corner City nearly break through Phil Foden but Curtis Jones has the pace to get back and recover it.

First big chance of the game. Mane will be disapppointed he hasn't hit the target there - it's great play from Trent Alexander-Arnold out on the right-hand side. He keeps the ball in ever so well, shows great desire, then beats the full-back and just drives it in towards the penalty spot. Cancelo had to do better there.
Liverpool 0-0 Manchester City
The only goal Liverpool have conceded in their last nine games came from a Ben Tozer long throw. Where's this coach Liverpool have got?
I want to see Gini Wijnaldum windmilling one into the box.
Liverpool 0-0 Manchester City
The ball would have to be in the area first. And there it is!
Good chance, and fine play from Trent-Alexadner-Arnold to keep the ball in, skin Oleksandr Zinchenko and whip in a beauty of a cross.
Sadio Mane gets there first, meets it with the meat of his head but can only slam it over the bar.
A very good chance.

Matt Dawson: It's just all Man City right now. Liverpool unable to get any foothold in the midfield, missing Henderson in that position. Worrying times for Klopp.
Had a dream Gündogan went to chest the ball in his own penalty area, missed it, and Liverpool scored. As an Arsenal fan, I don't care either way. But...worth a bet?

Pretty sure they've not started any games with six players Richard. That would be something to watch.
City are playing some superbly-drilled football, popping it about neatly and precisely but so far they aren't turning any of it into chances or excitement.

Chris Judge: I wonder whether there is finally enough City players in today's side without a hangup about playing at Anfield to achieve a win?
Richard Browne: City’s depth in squad is the factor of the season. Liverpool playing many games with half a team.

Lots of neat possession but not too much penetration from Liverpool and Manchester City as yet. Liverpool really pressing in on the City defence and keeper Ederson but that early yellow card for Thiago will be a concern with so much of this game to go.
Certainly plenty of noise from both sets of players out there.
Liverpool 0-0 Manchester City
If you like this sort of thing then yes, it is. Ruben Dias is some player isn't he?
Liverpool counter, City look in trouble momentarily but Dias ragdolls Roberto Firmino, takes the ball from him, sprays a pass out wide and then charges up through the middle to get on the end of it and start an attack.
The Basham from Benfica.

This game is tactically fascinating to watch. Good possession from Liverpool, Thiago trying to dictate the play.
