Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola to BBC Sport: "Well deserved, they hit the post and that can turn the game but the way we wanted to play was there. Tottenham have special quality, we have played well against them in the past and lost 2-0.

"They don't need anything to create chances. It is the quality and the approach of their manager. We have a special way to play and we will continue, you have to be patient, patient. Calm.

"The penalty is clear and then the first time we attack in the second half we score, that can happen.

"Is Rodri the taker now? No. I would say I admire the courage to take the penalty but it was not a good penalty. I am not laughing, I am concerned about this. We will have a real specialist to take them with quality. We have to practice.

Aston Villa have earned 11 Premier League wins in a season for the first time in a decade.

They have kept 10 clean sheets in those 11 victories, with the exception being a 7-2 dismantling of Liverpool.

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live about his side's good form: "This run has come during an intense period. When you get results it brings a bit more belief and confidence, and things become a bit more easy.

"I'm at the coal face and responsible for the main stat at the end of the match which is who has scored more. What we have struggled with this season is win games.

"We've drawn too many against teams in and around us. For us to take the next step we have to be more successful and win those games.

"In this league nobody cares what you did a couple of days ago. Aston Villa have recruited really well and identified areas they were weaker in last season. They've added some real quality and got more out of Jack Grealish, who is a fantastic player."

Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho to Sky Sports: "What do I make of the game? A fresh team against a very tired team, but a team that started the game very well. We controlled it, we hit the post, and going 1-0 could give us the fuel you need when you are tired.

"And then they one more of these modern penalties, I call them modern penalties, that put us in a difficult situation.

"I am very, very happy with the players' attitude. I had guys on the pitch who played two hours a couple of days ago and they gave everything. I had guys in a difficult situation on the pitch but they were brave.

"We had nothing in our favour. But the second half was very difficult."

Manchester City's Rodri, speaking to Sky Sports: "It is not easy to beat this type of teams. Tottenham so strong all game but we are so happy with the victory and the three points.

"I was a bit angry the last weeks because we missed many penalties, much more than we expected and big games you have to score penalties.

"I was angry, I grabbed the ball and no one took it from me and fortunately I scored. The win is the most important.

"Goalkeepers know each other, Ederson told me some points about Lloris, I didn't listen! I was confident in shooting in the way I did.

"We were laughing in the locker room, next penalty for sure I am going to take.

"It is a big step for us but of course it is not over. Many teams can achieve this so we are not expecting anything but to keep going and keep fighting."

Brighton lost to Leicester in the FA Cup in midweek but they keep rolling along nicely in the league, picking up another point against Burnley last weekend.

Aston Villa are a bit up and down of late, results-wise at least, because they have gone win-loss-win-loss-win in their past five games. I think that pattern will continue here, with a defeat.

This was a stroll in the park for Manchester City. Spurs might have a League Cup to show for their performances at the end of the season, but will that be enough?

Chris: People are saying Jose is done, but the reality they're too scared to face is that he's actually never been more efficient. The three season cycle has been compressed brilliantly and, frankly, it's astonishing to see.

Credit where it's due, Hugo Lloris makes a good save to deny Raheem Sterling a fourth. Again the England man was able to dribble and wriggle around inside the area and find space for the shot. It was hard and at the Spurs keeper and he kicks it out.

He should be saving that and he did.

Chloe: Half of last season was played without fans and Liverpool won it because they were the better team. This season, no fans, City are currently the better team. That's all it boils down to.

The Clueless One: Whilst I believe the game has moved beyond Mourinho, it's unfair to get on his back too much when they're about where they should be with this squad

The Casemaker: Dear Daniel Levy, Been a Spurs fan since ‘82. Saw Villa’s goal live at Highbury. This is the last match I am watching with Mourinho in charge. We deserve better.
