If you give James Maddison that much space and time on the edge of the box, it is a really good finish.

Maddison knows he needs to add more goals and assists to get in the England squad and he's doing it.

Just before that goal Villa went close but my computer decided to have a meltdown and delete the post.

Basically Ollie Watkins did suprerbly on the left to beat two men with a backheel but the cross came to nothing.

Brendan Rodgers is one of the best managers in the Premier League. He improves players and all of the players he has brought in buy into what he does and that is why they get results.

West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes speaking to BBC MOTD: "It is a great result for us. Today we felt it was a big, big task. Tottenham are one of the top sides and have fantastic players. For us to get a result and keep our momemtum going is really good.

"People who have played in the Europa League, sometimes that game on the Sunday can have an effect. We tried to make the most of it. There was a period we could have gone 2-0 up when we went 1-0 up and we didn't take it so that allowed Tottenham to grow confidence as the game went on."

On Jesse Lingard's impact: "Players want to play. They want to show what they can do. Jesse has done great for us and has contributed quickly. It wasn't long ago Jesse was an England international so I knew if we could get that level of player, it would improve us.

"Today I don't think we played as well as I'd have liked us to play which says a lot. You need a bit of luck along the way but we had all the right things. I want to get better at ball retention and possession but we have something to work with as we have a group of players that are determined to work to have success.

"I feel as if there is a half-job done. I think we can play much better and that's what I'm saying. I don't think we've hit top gear yet. The players have been finding ways to wrestle points off the opposition. They have done a brilliant job."

It's been all Leicester in the opening period. Dean Smith looks on, pondering how he can get into the game here.

An absolutely superb run down the left for Harvey Barnes, he takes some stopping when he gets into top gear. He comes inside having run 40-odd yards, opens up his body and looks to curl a shot into the far corner but Ezri Konsa makes a very good block to turn it away.

Ricardo then shoots, it takes yet another deflection and flies over the top. Leicester knocking on the door.

West Ham boss David Moyes, speaking to Sky Sports: "A great win for us. A tough opponent. Things like possession we feel we can be better. Let's not get carried away totally, we still have some things to do but simple things like hunger and the desire to succeed can cover other things as well.

"I think if we'd had a bit more care we could have got 2-0 up at one point but we didn't quite do that.

"He [Soucek] is a manager's dream. He is somebody who wants to play, really humble and enjoying being here.

"Jesse has been a very good player, we shouldn't take that away. He has had a difficult year. He has given us something else and helped us get better.

"We have only done half a job. If we continue this way we will be close. I don't want to be negative in any way.

"We are enjoying it but are also not going to be daft. We will keep calm and hopefully keep pushing the teams at the top.

"West Ham have always had bits where they've won some big games but what they want is consistency and I think we have consistency. This club badly needs a level where they are not around the bottom. This time last year you were asking me if we can avoid relegation so it is a great feeling that is gone.

"There is always a first for everything and Jose Mourinho has had great teams. He is up there with elite managers but sometimes football can get you results like it did today."

Harvey Barnes almost breaks into the area but Tyrone Mings defends well again. Villa do have Ollie Watkins as an out ball but on the one occasion he's had it so far he couldn't link up with a team-mate.

West Ham United

West Ham midfielder Jesse Lingard, speaking to Sky Sports: "A brilliant win. The lads are buzzing. We grafted. Luck was on our side today.

"It was just about maintaining the same intensity in the second half. We knew it would be a graft, that is what as a team we are about, working hard for the three points.

"It is brilliant, the lads have taken to me. I have settled in really quickly. I am playing each game with a smile and enjoying my football and that is the most important thing.

"Everyone has the same mindset and goal for the end of the season and the same targets. We don't look at the table too much and will take it game by game but this is an enjoyable position to be in."

Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham's Lucas Moura speaking to Sky Sports: "It's disappointing because I think we played well and we lost because of our mistakes. We worked hard and we showed a good effort. We just need to think now about the next game.

"We created chances to score. We had opportunities to win the game. We tried to attack and always looking for the goal but it wasn't possible. Next game we need to do better.

"I think they [Gareth Bale and Matt Doherty] did well. We tried everything and we had opportunities to score. We need to do better. The two goals we conceded we cannot concede goals like this. We need to learn from our mistakes.

"It's missing something. But we need to look forward. There are a lot of games to play. We need to improve."

Leicester have started ever so well and Aston Villa can't get out of their own half. That's where they will miss Jack Grealish because he can carry the ball forward.

Leicester threaten from the corner, it's not cleared properly in the area and runs out to left-back Luke Thomas. He hits a cannonball of a shot which takes a big deflection and spins wide of the target.

Leicester have made the brighter start, not sure Villa have crossed the halfway line yet. Tyrone Mings has to make a good clearing header.

Ah OK, that is good news if true.

Leicester have a shot straight away as Ricardo hits a left-footed curler from range straight at Emi Martinez.

Ricardo is playing up the wing today in front of Tom Castagne.
