Villa break again, this time through Watkins, but after beating his man down the left his cross is nowhere bear a team-mate.

This is what Villa were waiting for. Leeds commit men forward and are robbed of the ball, allowing El Ghazi to break. He reaches the edge of the box but gets right under his shot and fires it well over.

Tyrone Mings goes up with Liam Cooper for a header from a free-kick. The ball flies just past the Leeds goal but off Cooper's head. The resulting corner is dealt with much better by the home side.

The game is very stop-start now, which is very much to Villa's benefit.

Leeds much another change, sending on Jack Harrison for Helder Costa.

And another one. Villa are prevented from breaking by Klich and he is into the book.

Tyler Roberts goes into the book. As does Matt Targett. The original offence was from the Villa man, who fouled Roberts as he tried to break before then grabbing the Leeds player to prevent a quick free-kick. Roberts' reaction is what earns him a yellow.

Leeds continue to probe away for openings but the final incisive ball continues to elude them. An attempt to set Raphinha away behind the Villa defence is over-hit and goes out for a goal-kick.

Bielsa gives his team five minutes and then makes the change. Pascal Struijk is off with Ezgjan Alioski. I suspect he'll go to left-back with Stuart Dallas moved into central midfield.

Watkins and Llorente are engaged in a proper little mini war between them. They follow up the handbags in the first half with a grapple as the Villa striker looks to break, but the Leeds man gets back on top and is fouled by his foe.

It has been catching practice so far for the Villa keeper. Another delivery, this time from Dallas, curls right to him to gather.

Leeds with a free-kick of their own, but Raphinha floats it straight to Martinez.

Villa win a free-kick in Leeds territory early in the half but the delivery is blocked by the first man. Traore looks to weave his way through the middle soon after but has the ball nicked off his toe at a crucial moment.

The home side get the game back under way. No changes from either side, although there was some pretty vigorous warming up being done by a few subs, so it might not be long.

I think my overriding emotion coming out of that first half is one of pure jealousy for the glorious, full-bodied mane of Luke Ayling.

West Bromwich Albion

West Brom boss Sam Allardyce, speaking to Sky Sports: "This was a huge slice of luck for us. The first penalty was an outrageous decision. Our goal gave us something to battle away at. All season we have found it difficult to score so it's a big win because we scored from a set-piece and got the clean sheet.

"Brighton missed a few again today. If they can put that right they'll be a real force."

On Brighton's goal that was controversially disallowed: "I'm not sure you can take a quick free-kick anymore. Have you seen a quick free-kick this season? I would say it's not something we're really allowed to do.

"I've no idea why the second whistle went. There are so many bizarre rule changes in our rule book today. We don't really know categorically what we should or should not be doing in these situations."

West Ham United

West Ham manager David Moyes speaking to Match of the Day: “I’m really disappointed we didn’t get a point. It was a terrific performance. We came here and tried to match a top side and for long periods we did. We had really good opportunities and I’m really pleased with the players.
