Chelsea now counter at pace, Timo Werner runs at Branislav Ivanovic who is giving away plenty in terms of speed but has the weight advantage and leans on the striker.

It's a half-hearted penalty appeal which is waved away but more worrying is the fact that Ivanovic has stayed down and looks hurt.

It probably was a booking, he did catch him, Pereira tried to get the shot in and just after he took the shot Thiago Silva has come in late on him.

It’s a reasonable decision and it might make it a bit more of a game.

That was Thiago Silva's first red card since 5 May 2013, when he was sent off for Paris Saint-Germain in a Ligue 1 match. Nearly eight years between reds is a good effort for a centre-half.

Thomas Tuchel, still wearing a bobble hat as it's not so warm out of the sun, looks exasperated on the sidelines. He's making a lot of arm movements. Chelsea haven't been great so far.

Here he is, three-time Premier League champion Branislav Ivanovic is on for West Brom to replace the crocked Dara O'Shea.

He'll have to imagine the rapturous reception he would have got.

Albion defender Dara O'Shea is now hurt after being clattered by his own teammate on the sideline so Chelsea legend - fair? - Branislav Ivanovic is sent to warm up.

Chelsea look rusty so far, Hakim Ziyech has a simpleish ball to send Christian Pulisic in on goal but he overhits it by a good five yards. Marcos Alonso is then nearly in round the back but Darnell Furlong defends really well to clear it.

Darnell Furlong was the man who clearly stood on Timo Werner's foot after he put a low ball in. There was no appeal for a penalty there.

Timo Werner is caught while trying to put in a cross and he stays down, holding his ankle.

There's not much in the way of sympathy or concern heading his way and he's now back on his feet.

Mbaye Diagne is booked for a challenge with Cesar Azpilicueta - the Chelsea man goes down holding his face while the striker protests he was just trying to shield the ball.

A debate to be had for sure. Looked like a yellow card to me.

Chelsea now test Sam Johnstone for the first time as Marcos Alonso sends in a low shot but it's a save he should be making. And does.

Sherwin Le Monde: Silva a lucky boy there to still be on the pitch, surely stopped a goal scoring opportunity? Zouma was facing the other way so wasn't covering.

Andrew Mitchell: There’s surely a fair shout for a red card there - Pereira had broken through Zouma’s challenge and was goalside of Silva, who made no attempt for the ball and pulled him back.

It's a good start for West Brom who now counter very nicely, Matheus Pereira finding Darnell Furlong on the overlap and he wins a corner. They've had 21 days to work on these - and it's headed away by the first defender.
