Everton have lost nine Premier League matches at Goodison Park this season - the joint-most they have ever lost at home in a league campaign, alongside 1912-13, 1947-48, 1950-51 and 1993-94.

  2. 'As we usually did at home, we lost'published at 21:22 British Summer Time 16 May 2021

    Everton

Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti to BBC Sport: "We played so bad. The only result that could be possible is a defeat. As we usually did at home most of the time, we lost. I have to take responsbilty for this but I hope the players do too.

"We have two games to the end. We lost a great opportunity to have the chance to fight for Europe. We have to do our best to the end. The next one we will have fans and maybe they can help us wake up.

"It's difficult to say [why Everton are better away]. When we tried to put quality and build from the back we have more difficulties. We are more comfortable when we play direct but that is not the best style of play.

"For next season we are going to change. We have to analyse the season. Certain aspects are really good - away we did fantastic results, at home really bad. Double face.

"To be ready for Europe you have to be in Europe. We have to try to win the two games and see if we are in Europe or not. If we are we will build a squad to be in Europe. If we’re not we’ll build a squad to be better in the Premier League."

  3. 'They beat us on attitude'published at 21:19 British Summer Time 16 May 2021

    Everton

Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford: "Not good enough as a collective, too many times this season we haven't been on it. Every team is tough to beat but the attitude they showed, they beat us on attitude, even though they've been relegated.

"Attitude - working as a team, team effort, we need to hold our hands up and blame ourselves. It's another season gone by again by too many easy losses.

"Everyone who gets beat at home would blame not having fans this season but we have to blame ourselves, there's nothing else to say there really - we need to look at ourselves and what can we do better? We've still got two games, it's about pride, turn up on Wednesday and try and put a performance in in front of the fans."

On having fans back in: "Better if we won today, it's about us Wednesday now and we need to prepare for that, it wasn't good enough today."

  4. 'Excellent from start to finish'published at 21:18 British Summer Time 16 May 2021

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom to BBC Sport: "I thought we were excellent from start to finish. It makes a difference when you get the first goal.

"We didn't create a hatful of chances but we created good ones. We were strong at the other end.

"Excellent [defensive performance]. The best while I've been in charge and the best for a while. We've had good performances and been undone by top-end quality sometimes. Today we didn't really give them a sniff.

"It's a great group of payers to work with. The spirit and honesty has got them into the Premier League. A lot of circumstances conspired against us this seaosn with fans and Covid and a hell of a lot of injuries.

"It feels better. These boys have been fighting all season. You've still got to enjoy playing in this league [after relegation]. Next season is totally different. The boys will have a break which they didn't get this season."

On Daniel Jebbison: "He's nowhere near finished. He deserves his chance. He's been put in on merit. The biggest reason he was in the team was his running power to stretch their team and be in between the posts when we put the ball in the box. The coaches have helped him develop in a short space of time.

"You can see the hard work and natural athleticism. He listens and learns. He performed his role excellently without the ball. He's scored the goal. He's certainly played his part with and without the ball."

Ancelotti has over a long and successful career earned the time to turn things around at Everton, but what positives can he point to from this season? Even worse when compared to Leicester and West Ham

Can we let Big Dun manage our home games please. He would make sure we play with a little passion. For all his talents Ancelotti just doesn’t have that ability.

  6. 'We carried no one today'published at 21:09 British Summer Time 16 May 2021

    FT: Everton 0-1 Sheff Utd

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United manager Paul Heckingbottom: "Delighted, we were good form start to finish and worthy of three points we had good chances, not a lot of chances but some good ones and we defended really well. Aaron Ramsdale made a couple of good saves first-half but second half we protected him well.

"We've had other good performances and been undone with quality at the other end but today we were good, probably the best defensive display that I've seen for a long time.

"Early goal on his debut and it's about where he scored his goal as well, they're the best ones, credit to him. He deserved it, worked hard and did his job without the ball as well we carried no one today."

On getting three points: "It's a reward, it's difficult, all season we have put in performances worthy of points and not got them. We've had good games that haven't gone our way. It's a good reward when you think you've been playing well but not getting points on the board.

On having fans back in: "We can't wait - fans will be delighted to be back, players will be delighted to be playing in front of them - only have to look at the FA Cup final t see how much it means - regardless of how many is in."

On staying at the club past the end of the season: "I've been given this role between now and the end of the season, nothing has changed for me, I'm more than happy to keep doing that, we've all got a part to play and this is my part."

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United defender Jack Robinson to BBC Sport: "We've all had a look in the mirror and thought we need a bit of pride. That was a performance we've been looking for all season."

On his assist for Daniel Jebbison: "I dragged my shot but he's on the end of it.

"It's nice for Rammers [Aaron Ramsdale] to keep a clean sheet as well. He was unbelievable today - he kept us in it. He's been brilliant for us.

"We're not proud of this season. We'll work on it next year in the Championship and hope to get back up."

Poor performance from Everton - take nothing away from Sheffield United, very well organised and resilient, a good away performance.

Everton fans will be bitterly disappointed with their team at home again, they haven't shown anything, it almost felt like a nervous performance.
