  2. 'Today was a team performance'published at 14:34 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2021

    FT: England 1-0 Austria

England manager Sarina Wiegman on ITV: "The performance was a team one - we created chances, but we had some hard times too. We needed some concentration from the team and the two saves from Mary Earps - she kept us in the game and that allowed us to keep going for the second goal, which we didn’t get but we got the clean sheet, which is fine."

On what makes Ellen White so good: "Her consistency. She loves football. She is such a professional and a team player. She is very special."

The three points were the most important thing about today as far as qualification goes, but it's great times for Ellen White - 100 caps for her country and to top it off with the winning goal. It's just fantastic for her. Today was all about Ellen White.

England have had five consecutive wins with clean sheets. A clean sheet is so important to build confidence. There have been a lot of changes to this squad, particularly to the back four, and it just shows the strength in depth. It bodes well going forward.

  4. 'A really hard game'published at 14:29 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2021

    FT: England 1-0 Austria

England striker Ellen White, who made her 100th appearance, talking to ITV: "It is a dream really. It has come full circle with me making my debut against Austria and my 100th appearance against them today, which is strange. I just wanted the team to win. It was a really hard game. I am so proud of the team and the way we stuck in there and got a clean sheet and the three points. I'm really happy.

"They came out of the blocks. They were really pressing us in the first five or 10 minutes. We just needed to be patient. We needed really good game management and there were times we didn't play our best football but we had to stay in the game and I think we did that.

"There were times I couldn't feel my face today! Thanks to the fans for coming out."

  16. GOOD SAVE!published at 85 mins

    England 1-0 Austria

Oh! Rachel Daly lines up a strike from distance and it skids off the turf and Manuela Zinsberger does well to get down and tip it behind for a corner.

That is just England's second attempt on target in the second half.

    Better from England.

Millie Bright switches the ball out to the Lauren Hemp on the left-hand wing, and the Manchester City winger fizzes the ball across the area, with Ellen White lurking.

Carina Wenninger does well again though, to cut the ball out.

I was just thinking we've not really seen or heard of Ellen White in this second half. But that's what she does really well, she goes unnoticed and unheard and then she pops up and nearly gets a second goal. Just centimetres away from that bottom post.

Almost the moment for Ellen White.

She flicks the ball round the corner for herself, and gets an effort away but Carina Wenninger gets across to block it behind.
