  1. GREAT SAVE!published at 53 mins

    England 1-0 Austria

    It should be 1-1.

Austria end up with a three-on-two situation and Maria Plattner is thread through. She composes herself and does the right thing and goes across Mary Earps.

The Manchester United keeper does really well though to get across and tip it behind for a corner. Top save.

    England 1-0 Austria

Oh! A shot on target for Austria.

Barbara Dunst drives down the right and decides to shoot from distance and it almost catches Marp Earps out at her near post. She has to stick a hand up to make the save, all while trying to avoid colliding with the post.

    A warning for England.

Austria did really well defensively. What they need to do this half is really push more players forward. They do is sit back and try and get numbers behind the ball, but now that they are chasing a goal they need to push players forward and take those risks further up the field.

    Better from Austria.

They work a crossing opportunity on the left-hand side but it is easily cut out in the middle by Millie Bright with Nicole Billa waiting in the middle.

  8. 'Austria have been tidy'published at 13:31 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2021

We knew Austria would be a tougher test and they have proven that. They are tidy in possession and well organised out of it.

But England have opened them up and it's the final ball which has been lacking.

Fran Kirby has been excellent and when you have Ellen White in the side, you always feel more goals will come.

  9. 'I'm fangirling most of the time' - Hamptonpublished at 13:27 Greenwich Mean Time 27 November 2021

    HT: England 1-0 Austria

Aston Villa keeper Hannah Hampton has been frequently involved in Sarina Wiegman's squads.

She's yet to feature for the full side, but has been talking about her experience in the squad, saying she's "fangirling" most of the time, adding that she "loves" being in the Lionesses squad and is learning from "some of the best players in the world".

    Lindsay Johnson
Ex-England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra

The goal was coming but Austria made it really difficult for England.

They should be pleased with how they have played defensively but England have worked hard this half to get that breakthrough and for Ellen White to get the goal to allow them to go in 1-0 at the half-time break.

England were largely dominant in that first-half, having 71% possession and 16 shots. They ended with eight on target but only found that one goal so far.

It was a big goal though, with Ellen White getting in on the scoring on her 100th appearance in an England shirt. It takes her to 45 international goals, and just one away from joining Kelly Smith at the top of the charts.

Can she join her in the second half?

Austria will just want to get to half-time now. They will be really disappointed to concede when they have defended so well, but it has been coming - England have been building, particularly down both flanks, where they have been getting most of the joy.

  15. GREAT SAVE!published at 45 mins

    England 1-0 Austria

    Oh!

Fran Kirby has been England's best player in this first-half and she does well to dig out a left-footed shot that has Manuela Zinsberger stretching to make the save.

The ball breaks for Ellen White but she is decided by another save at the near post.

It's like England have realised now that they have got to move this ball quickly and not allow the Austrians to drop back in their ranks and get more bodies into the box to defend.

  17. Postpublished at 43 mins

    England 1-0 Austria

Oh, Ellen White! She was on her heels.

Lauren Hemp crosses from the left and the ball goes through the legs of the defender but slightly deviates and White isn't alert to the chance and Manuela Zinsberger gathers.

    A missed opportunity that.

And that all come from Lauren Hemp down the left-hand side. Nice early cross, so the Austrians weren't in position, they were all trying to recover and get back into the box, and that meant Fran Kirby was able to get onto the end of it.

Ellen White, on her 100th game, that's a fantastic finish. Zinsberger didn't have a chance. It's still not an easy chance to score but Ellen White was able to do that.

  19. Postpublished at 42 mins

    Almost 2-0!

They again find space down the right-hand wing and the ball falls for Lauren Hemp and she turns and shoots, but it is a comfortable save for Manuela Zinsberger.

It had to be Ellen White! What a way to mark her 100th appearance, to do what she has done throughout her England career - score goals.

She is now one goal off equalling Kelly Smith's all-time Lionesses record.
