    FT: Newcastle 2-4 West Ham

    Newcastle United

Newcastle's Matt Ritchie speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought we started well. We were in control and then we brought on the second half ourselves. We've worked on closing the game out and managing the game and we didn't do that today. It was our own doing that we lost that control and hopefully we can learn quickly because we can't be doing that every week.

"There were certainly positives. It was great to see the fans back and first half there was some good play. We could have maybe scored one or two more but there were positives for sure. Hopefully we can give the fans something to shout about this season."

The likely title contenders put some big scores on the board yesterday.

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson tells BBC MOTD: "Everyone is frustrated, first game of the season you always want to get off to a good start. To concede three goals after going in front, we will have to address it and get back to defending as a team.

"It was nice, a special moment and scoring the first goal. It was an amazing feeling but straight to disappointment after conceding. A bittersweet day for me.

"It was a nice feeling, I have been waiting for this day for so long and the number nine is just an iconic number, I want do it justice. We got ourselves back in front but the most frustrating thing is to concede three. We need to stop the back door and will always be a threat going forward.

"We have to build on last year and that it is a process, game by game but not how we did today. Early days, first game to clean cobwebs and we go again for the next game."

  4. 'West Ham were outstanding'published at 16:09 British Summer Time 15 August 2021

    Neil Lennon
Former Northern Ireland midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

    It's been a great game.

A lot of positives for Newcastle to take away from the first half. I think they need more legs in their squad and today has been evidence to that.

From a West Ham point of view, they've been outstanding. Physically, mentally and quality-wise on the ball. Ruthless.

  5. What is Levy like to deal with?published at 16:07 British Summer Time 15 August 2021

Tottenham v Man City (16:30 BST)

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel on BBC Radio 5 Live, talking about Spurs chairman Daniel Levy: "Daniel Levy is hard, but he's honest. When you do a deal and you shake hands, he's honest and he's not going to change the deal on you. So you know where you stand.

"And it can be frustrating for a manager because you can build something and you might just need that one striker or left-back and he doesn't do the negotiation like he feels. Then you don't have that player and you lose the league, let's say. So it can be frustrating for a manager.

"But I think most managers will enjoy working there, but you do have to deal with Daniel and the board because he will push you and press you. He's a hands-on chairman."

  7. 'We're never beaten and we'll always fight back'published at 16:05 British Summer Time 15 August 2021

    FT: Newcastle 2-4 West Ham

    West Ham United

West Ham goalscorer Michail Antonio speaking to Sky Sports: "I had a couple of opportunities before that I didn't take but getting a goal in the first game starts the season off for me and hopefully I can keep going and keep scoring more."

On going level with Paolo Di Canio as West Ham's leading top-flight goalscorer: "Not bad for a right-back."

On having the fans back: "It's unbelievable. Even the atmosphere when we came out and the Newcastle fans were booing us. It's not the same without the fans so I really enjoyed it. This is what football is and that's why i love the game."

On his goal: "I'm going to have to say sorry to Dec [Rice] because when he missed his pen last season I said I'm on pens next so he might be back on them."

On West Ham's comeback: "We showed our ability last year. We showed we have the resilience and we always believe in ourselves that we can come back and score goals. We're never beaten, we'll always fight back and keep going."

Nice to see David Moyes smiling. He's delighted and he should be, that was a great overall team performance. They weathered the storm from Newcastle in the first half and great response in the second half. Going forward they were outstanding in the second half.

Newcastle have lots of positives, but they have to get fitter and get more legs as the season goes on. Going forward they look a threat.

Rachel T: Of course there is no Kane - hardly any training and hasn’t played a game since 11th July. No way he is match fit, so correct decision.

Liz Tray: Starting to feel a bit sorry for Nuno! All this Kane stuff to deal with. Is he really so out of shape he can't even make the bench? What a professional. All the City players who came back this week are there.

  10. The Harry Kane derbypublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 15 August 2021

Spurs v Man City (16:30 BST)

Spurs have him. Manchester City want him. But Harry Kane will not be playing for either side today.

England captain Kane has told Spurs he wants to leave the club - and did not turn up for the first day of training.

City have confirmed they want to sign the 28-year-old - but are not thought to be willing to match Spurs' £160m valuation.

He trained with the squad for the first time on Friday following a five-day quarantine period after returning late from his holiday.

Strong team with lots of of quality and know what they're doing. Great start of the season for them, just picking up where they left off last season.
