Alex Greenhill: Saint-Maximin is wasted at Newcastle. Guy would be worth bucketloads in today's market if he played for a champions league side.

Bob Moss: Is this really Newcastle I am watching?

Rob Schofield: Wilson spoke in pre season about how he's been telling St Maximin to stop feeling the need to beat players two or three times before crossing it... if that's the result I'm all for it!

It's his first time playing with the number nine of his back. That will do his confidence some good. What a player, what a player he is.

I love watching him play. He's so direct, but he's got quality and purpose to back that up.

    Callum Wilson

    What a start!

I said Callum Wilson enjoys playing against West Ham and he has done it again.

Newcastle's new number nine, following in the footsteps of a certain Alan Shearer, darts to the near post and thumps in a header to put the Magpies ahead.

The chance was created by Allan Saint-Maximin's work down the right, shimmying right, left and right again, making mince meat of Declan Rice before putting in a delicious delivery that the Englishman gobbled up.

Bateman: Willock's a superb acquisition by Bruce but you'd surely have to question Arteta letting a promising midfielder who scored in seven straight games to leave for a relatively small fee.

A corner in the second minute for West Ham, from which they almost score!

    BBC Radio 5 Live

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson on BBC Radio 5 Live, explaining how he asked for his new shirt number: "Give me that!

"I'm joking. I came in and nine was taken I didn't want to start asking for it as soon as I walked through the door so I took 13. This season seven became available. I know I predominately play as a nine down the middle and Joey is more on the right and left and seven is more of a wingers numbers. So I asked him if he would like to take seven and can I take the nine. We had a man to man discussion and we've both agreed to switch numbers.

"I'm grateful for him to accept the switch.

"I enjoy the pressure of the shirt and hopefully I'll thrive off it. It's an honour to be wearing it and I want to do it justice. I've got the shirt on now and I've not taken it off since I got it."

    Nigel Reo-Coker
Former West Ham midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think my thing with West Ham is that they're like a soap opera. You never know what you're going to get. West Ham fans are very ambitious and passionate so they're going to want and expect to do better than last season.

This has to be a priority this season. Going for the long and extensive European run will probably be the better situation rather than just one bettering their league position from last season.
