    Dynamo Kyiv 0-1 Bayern Munich

The snow is still falling in Kyiv but the ground staff did an excellent job pre-game and managed to get the majority of the snow off the pitch. We've not had any problems with the ball moving so far.

Kyiv have just hit the post after Bayern Munich goalkeeper Manuel Neuer completely missed the ball attempting a clearance. Munich still lead through that Robert Lewandowski goal.

Meanwhile their head coach Julian Nagelsmann is sporting this snazzy number tonight.

I guess you can't blame him, but it's pretty clear already that Michael Carrick has gone very much safety first here.

They're relinquishing so much of the ball to the home side and sitting deep.

    Villarreal 0-0 Man Utd

For a second it looks like Cristiano Ronaldo might be in, but he drops to the turf after being challenged. It is a barge in the back from Juan Foyth, but no foul according to the ref.

    Villarreal 0-0 Man Utd

They try to be smart with a short corner that is then worked to the edge of the box but the man who was hoping to hit it doesn't have the room.

The attack remains alive but Yeremi Pino can't make anything useful of it, firing an effort wide.

Cristiano Ronaldo lost the ball and Anthony Martial got beat so easily and then didn't show any kind of desire to get back in either - these are the types of things that frustrate you as a team and a manager. That should be his teammates telling him and giving him an earful and saying 'oi - that's happened once, don't let it happen again'.

Villarreal win another corner. Played it nicely down the left.

The first game after a manager has been sacked is always intriguing. There's no where to hide for the players and they've got to deliver a reaction and prove it was the manager who was at fault. So far all they've proved is some of them simply aren't good enough.

Boos for Cristiano Ronaldo from the home fans as he gets his first touch. His second isn't the best, though, as he gives it away.

    Villarreal 0-0 Man Utd

It's very much a containing job so far from the visitors. They're doing that pretty well to be fair.

    Villarreal 0-0 Man Utd

Harry Maguire drops under pressure and gets a foul in his own half. To be honest, I suspect he'd run out of other options after turning back towards his own goal.

Barring the early free-kick from Alex Telles that Scott McTominay headed into the side-netting, we've seen nothing of Manchester United as an attacking threat.

Good play, good control of the game. Villarreal are keeping United penned in their own third moving the ball from side to side. Yeremi Pino went for a shot from distance which took a wicked deflection. He did really well to drop the shoulder and just allow it to come across him.

A touch of worry there for United that they couldn't get close enough to put the pressure on Villarreal.

    Villarreal 0-0 Man Utd

Villarreal players are adamant they should have a penalty. Arnaut Danjuma's cross is blocked by the arm of Aaron Wan-Bissaka. It was close to his body, though. That's not a penalty.

It prompts a couple of corners that United do see off before a return ball into the box is headed over.

  15. Lewandowski scores againpublished at 18:03 Greenwich Mean Time 23 November 2021

    Dynamo Kyiv 0-1 Bayern Munich

    Who else?

Robert Lewandowski has given Bayern Munich the lead and it comes via a brilliant overhead kick. The ball ricochets off a defender and the Poland striker acrobatically volleys home on his weaker left foot.

It is his ninth goal in five Champions League games this season.

He also becomes the first player to score in nine successive Champions League games twice, having first done it in August 2020. Ruud van Nistelrooy and Cristiano Ronaldo have both done it once.

    What a player.

    That's a chance!

Yeremi Pino allows the ball to roll across him in the box to buy him a yard that he uses to fire a shot into the side-netting. That's the second time the home side have had David de Gea worried.

    Villarreal 0-0 Man Utd

The home side continue to stroke the ball around in the Man Utd half. A low cross from Moi Gomez is hammered away by Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

  18. Postpublished at 8 mins

    Villarreal 0-0 Man Utd

Villarreal seeing a lot of the ball. Manchester United not tempted to press high. Unsurprising. They're far better suited to using their pace on the break.

Cristiano Ronaldo has had his boots on the touchline for the start of this game, Anthony Martial is playing through the middle of the strike force and Ronaldo is definitely playing on the left-hand side.

    Villarreal 0-0 Man Utd

The Man Utd players have pretty much all taken some stick in recent weeks, but David de Gea is a rare exception. He's been in good form this season.
