Real Madrid v PSG (20:00 GMT)

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

One of the key battles I am looking forward to is Marco Verratti against Luka Modric. They are two incredible midfield players.

  2. Lights out at the Etihadpublished at 19:58 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2022

Man City v Sporting (20:00 GMT)

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

First we had a water display - well, the sprinklers turned on full blast - now the fans inside Etihad Stadium have just been treated to a light-and-sound show before kick-off.

It was pretty lively too... and got the home fans in the mood to boo the Champions League anthem, as per usual.

Real Madrid v PSG (20:00 GMT)

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

If you look at the Paris St-Germain bench it is full of big personalities and then who are you going to bring off? You are managing personalities and it is about getting that mix right.

You need senior players at your club to help run the dressing room. The expectations at PSG are sky high. If they do not get through you would expect Manchester United fans to be happy because it will be a good chance to get Mauricio Pochettino.

  5. Raining goals?published at 19:55 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2022

Man City v Sporting (20:00 GMT)

    Chris Bevan
    BBC Sport at Etihad Stadium

You'd think the Manchester weather would have provided the Etihad Stadium pitch with enough water in recent days but the sprinklers have just been turned on to full power as the teams ran off after their warm-up - Jack Grealish literally hurdled one of them to avoid a soaking.

The Sporting fans are still in good voice - they will just be hoping it won't be raining goals again later, like it was in Lisbon in the first leg...

Real Madrid v PSG (20:00 GMT)

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

When top teams meet they sometimes cancel each other out and you could see that in the first leg. I can see this being quite cagey as well early doors because there is a lot at stake.

When the spaces become big that is when Real Madrid could struggle with the pace of Kylian Mbappe and the movement of Lionel Messi and Neymar.

  10. Is Benzema under-valued?published at 19:48 Greenwich Mean Time 9 March 2022

Real Madrid v PSG (20:00 GMT)

    Izzy Christiansen
England and Everton midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

I think Karim Benzema feels like he is a bit under-valued at Real Madrid and he uses that as his motivation in games.

His statistics are up there with other strikers in the Champions League over the years but maybe he is a bit of a love-hate figure for other fans globally.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola on CJ Egan-Riley to BT Sport: "During the season always we have some injuries and that is the case today. We have talented players in this situation. We know him from the academy and he trains with us regularly. He is a stable player and person so I'm sure he will have a good game."

On Sporting Lisbon: "Every player will try to play big games in the Champions League. They maybe have two strikers so play differently. They of course have pride so will try to play a good game. We need to do it again and again. The greatest teams, this is what it is all about. Always we have to do it and I'm sure we will try."

Man City v Sporting (20:00 GMT)

    Manchester City

CJ Egan-Riley is making his Champions League debut for Manchester City - a huge moment for the 19-year-old.

He is the third Manchester-born player to represent the club in the Champions League after Tosin Adarabioyo and Tommy Doyle.

His only senior appearance for City so far was in the 6-1 home win against Wycombe Wanderers in the third round of the League Cup on 21 September 2021.

    Real Madrid

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti said they "suffered" from the "pressure" applied by PSG in the first leg.

PSG have a 1-0 lead in the tie thanks to Kylian Mbappe's 94th-minute goal in Paris.

"We were not able to play how we wanted and what we suffered from the most was the pressure from PSG," he said.

"We are convinced that the best Real Madrid can compete with the best PSG. We saw the best version of PSG in Paris. I wish to see the best version of Real Madrid on Wednesday."

I think Kylian Mbappe is the main man. Since Cristiano Ronaldo left I know Karim Benzema has stepped up but I think he will just suit Real Madrid.

I expect the fans to give him an incredible welcome. He looks destined for it.
