Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

Tottenham with 28% of possession and just the one shot on target. At home. In a semi-final that they must win.

No doubt they have improved since Antonio Conte replaced Nuno Espirito Santo, but this is proving to be a reality check of just how much work Conte still has to do.

It's a big job and a big month. Will he be backed by Daniel Levy in the transfer market?

  2. Postpublished at 49 mins

Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

The first chance of the second half goes to Chelsea and it's very similar to the goal they scored earlier on.

Antonio Rudiger gets there, mis-times the jump, the ball bounces off his neck and goes over the top.

  3. Postpublished at 47 mins

Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

No changes from either side. With no Son Heung-min, Tottenham's options are a bit limited, but it would be a great time for Dele Alli to remind everyone of his talent, while 17-year-old forward Dane Scarlett could really make a name for himself.

We're back under way at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs get us going. They need a very, very special 45 minutes.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal will be missing key players for the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.

Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Naby Keita are at the Africa Cup of Nations, as are Arsenal quartet Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Mohamed Elneny and Thomas Partey.

Thiago Alcantara (hip) and Divock Origi (knee) remain absent for Liverpool. Arsenal's Granit Xhaka (Covid-19) will be assessed, as will Emile Smith Rowe (groin) and Takehiro Tomiyasu (calf).

Regarding his club's selection problems before Thursday's game at Anfield, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta said: "It is extremely volatile and uncertain. In the last week or so we lost so many players for different reasons and we're trying to adapt to that."

The match at Anfield was originally scheduled to be the second leg, but last week's tie at Emirates Stadium was rearranged after Liverpool had to close their training complex following a number of Covid cases, although some of them turned out to be false positives.

  7. 'Chelsea are so dominant'published at 20:39 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

HT: Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

It is another example of Chelsea's dominance against Spurs. It is a grudge match, it has history, but Spurs can't compete on the pitch on a level their fans can get behind.

Chelsea are so controlling you can only come to one conclusion: a Chelsea win.

  8. Spurs left frustratedpublished at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

How Spurs needed a break there. They thought they had one when Andre Marriner pointed to the spot but Rudiger's foul on Hojbjerg was clearly outside the area. Groans of frustration from an already frustrated Spurs support.

Hard to see a way back for Spurs unless they produce something highly unexpected on the evidence we have seen so far.

Boos from the Spurs fans at half-time.

  9. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:35 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

Chelsea are heading to a Wembley final against either Liverpool or Arsenal, barring an incredible second half from Tottenham.

Antonio Rudiger scored, thought he had conceded a penalty but was saved by the video assistant referee and it's all to do for an underwhelming Spurs.

Antonio Conte is going to have to work some magic to get the better of his former team in this tie.

Daniel Levy must take full responsibility for how bad this Spurs squad is. Even the dreadfully dull squads of Gerry Francis and George Graham showed more commitment than this.

Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

What can Tottenham do with the free-kick? They were hoping Harry Kane would be getting ready to take a penalty, instead it's Giovani Lo Celso with a free-kick.

    Off the wall. Wasted.

  12. 'The slide looks out of the box'published at 20:28 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Rudiger makes a real error of judgement. He is trying to recover into the box. Is that outside the box, though? He should stay on his feet, but the initially slide looks out of the box.

  13. NO penaltypublished at 20:27 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

So close to a penalty, but Mike Dean on the VAR says it is a foul right on the edge of the penalty area.

  14. VAR check on the penaltypublished at 20:26 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

Where does the contact start on that Rudiger challenge on Hojbjerg?

VAR is having a look at this. Nervous moments for the Tottenham fans.

  15. PENALTY to Tottenhampublished at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

Antonio Rudiger brings down Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with a sliding challenge.

Spurs have a penalty. Rudiger says it's outside the area. A big moment, this one.

  16. Postpublished at 20:25 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

Harry Kane, shoulder-to-shoulder with Antonio Rudiger, goes down in the penalty area. The home fans scream 'penalty', but even Kane's not interested in that one and that's some solid defending from Rudiger.

  17. Postpublished at 37 mins

Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

Lucas Moura plays in Emerson Royal for the hosts, but, under pressure from a Callum Hudson-Odoi challenge who had tracked back well, he can only shoot tamely at Blues goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.

  18. 'Spurs are marking space'published at 20:20 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

The Tottenham players are all marking space. Nobody is locking in on the player with the ball or effecting the man receiving it. It is so comfortable for Chelsea to play their football, and they are doing that really well.

  19. Postpublished at 33 mins

Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

It's been a frantic opening 33 minutes and Chelsea have a chance with Romelu Lukaku sending in a header, but well wide, after Timo Werner's cross from the top corner of the penalty area.

  20. CLOSE!published at 33 mins

Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (0-3 on aggregate)

Harry Kane, on the turn, shoots but it is blocked. Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg then has another attempt, it takes a massive deflection and it loops up and over the bar, so close.

From the resulting right-wing corner Kane just can't get a touch sliding in at the back post after Davinson Sanchez had glanced on a header at the near post. Any touch at all from Kane and that was a goal.

Better from Tottenham. That's the first time Chelsea have looked vulnerable.
