  1. 'Chelsea have gone for a back four'published at 19:49 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

    Tottenham 0-0 Chelsea

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Chelsea have already slipped into a back four with Sarr at left back. Talking before the game, we were sure it would be a back three with Sarr, Christensen and Rudiger. It is that 4-2-2-2 with Hudson-Odoi and Mount behind Werner and Lukaku.

Chelsea have started well with a lot of the early ball. It is played down the left wing and Malang Sarr is well forward but his cross is met by Japhet Tanganga's diving header to clear the danger.

It's a big night for Harry Kane, yet to win a trophy at Spurs.

This is the club's best chance of silverware this season after a shock loss to Slovenia's NS Mura, along with Spurs being unable to field a team against Rennes, ended their hopes in the Europa Conference League.

I don't understand why Lloris is benched, I get that Gollini needs game time outside of Europe but still, this is our most important game.

  7. 'Chelsea's squad is phenomenal'published at 19:44 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

    Tottenham v Chelsea (19:45 GMT)

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

What a squad Chelsea have, it is phenomenal. It is why so many tipped Chelsea for the Premier League. The addition of Lukaku, it was just like 'wow, this squad is going to be unbeatable.' It has just been a little bit unsettled recently.

  9. Lights...published at 19:42 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

The fans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are being treated to a spectacular lightshow to build up the atmosphere and the excitement.

Spurs' stadium is one of the best in Europe and an early goal with those home fans causing a raucous atmosphere and right behind their team and who knows what could happen.

Easier said than done, obviously, though.

Those Tottenham fans thinking their team will get the job done may well be thinking of what happened 20 years ago.

Chelsea won the first leg of this competition's semi-final stage (when called the Worthington Cup) 2-0, only for Spurs to secure a 5-1 victory at White Hart Lane to set up a final appearance.

But Tottenham went on to lose 2-1 to Blackburn in the final at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium.

Just look at the strength on Chelsea's bench. They would walk into the Spurs first team. The Spurs squad needs serious surgery, the gulf is huge.

We asked who is going through to Wembley.

The majority of you say Chelsea will finish the job off, but there's still a lot of you that think Spurs can turn this around.

  13. 'Tottenham lack quality in wide areas'published at 19:32 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

Tottenham v Chelsea (19:45 GMT, 0-2 on aggregate)

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

When I watch Tottenham, I've not thought they've had a right-sided player since [Kieran] Trippier left the club. Emerson Royal flatters to deceive. Is he creating going forward? Not really, and I don't think he is particularly reliable defensively.

He has to play wing-back and not full-back in a back four. Conte has had to use a back three because the full-back situation is [poor].

We've seen how well Chelsea have done in those areas and how potent they have been. [Tino Livramento and Tariq Lamptey] are leaving the club because they can't get a sniff at right-back.

They base so much of their game around that position. Two wing-backs high up the pitch, two holding midfielders and they do all their damage in wide areas. I don't see Tottenham having that quality.

What an achievement it would be for Tottenham if they can turn this around.

History is not in their favour though.

  16. 'I can't understand why Lloris is on the bench'published at 19:26 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

    Tottenham v Chelsea (19:45 GMT)

    Matt Upson
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

The fans are underwhelmed [by the Spurs team]. I think Hugo Lloris being on the bench is a huge talking point. I can't understand why he wouldn't be starting, it is a massive game for the club.

[Oliver] Skipp has done really well lately, Bryan Gil is there, Dele Alli, there are some young players on the bench. For me it is a team [Antonio] Conte looks at and thinks 'we need to get on the front foot'. They are at home here, you have to physically get among your opponents.

It is interesting with [Giovani] Lo Celso. Is that a little curveball in terms of formation, will he play number 10 with Lucas Moura and Harry Kane up front? Maybe a surprise in that sense, possibly, but I think the manager thinks this is the best team to do the job.

  19. Tottenham know my vision for the present and future - Contepublished at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

Tottenham v Chelsea (0-2 on aggregate)

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte says the club know his vision and that he likes to have an "honest relationship" with owners.

Conte won the Premier League and FA Cup during his spell in charge of Chelsea and have a watch of what he had to say yesterday at his news conference.

  20. 'We're playing the best in Europe'published at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 12 January 2022

Tottenham v Chelsea (19:45 GMT, 0-2 on aggregate)

    Tottenham Hotspur

On Tottenham's chances of progressing to the final, Antonio Conte said: "It's hard, we know we're facing a really top team that last season won the Champions League and in the summer they invested much money to improve the squad.

"At this moment we're playing the best in Europe and when you play against this type of team it's hard.

"Despite our problems with injuries, we need to try to give everything and show great desire to fight and a great personality.

"We have to show that compared to the first game we can improve and try to fight in the best way."
