    Newcastle 1-0 Tottenham

It's ridiculous. It's a start born from pure adrenaline. This place is absolutely bouncing.

If Spurs aren't careful they could sink without a trace here.

It's a cracker of an early goal. What a fantastic start and what a great goal, Spurs are absolutely shocked.

We were asking before the game: 'Can these fans have an impact?' Er, yeah. I think so.

    Callum Wilson

    LIFT OFF!!!!!!

It's a dream start, the kind you'd dismiss as ridiculous in a script.

Javier Manquillo is found on the right after Tottenham give the ball away and his cross lays it on a plate for Callum Wilson to dive in and score with his head.

    Bedlam!

Newcastle is a bustling city on a normal match day, but it feels like a carnival has descended on it today.

Outside St James' Park there are plenty of fans wearing Saudi head dresses and some are carrying Saudi flags, but the vast majority have answered calls to wear black and white in celebration of a new era at the club.

It is a very eclectic mix of people. I've met Saudi Arabian students who are up from Birmingham and having their pictures taken with locals, and Kuwaiti students who are studying in Newcastle and have come along for the "vibes".

As one fan said it me, "the takeover has certainly put Newcastle on the map."

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

I keep reading about who the next Newcastle manager is going to be, so I feel sorry for Magpies boss Steve Bruce, because no-one has come out and said what is happening to him.

Whatever the decision is on his future, just tell him and make it public - don't just leave him dangling. It's not an ideal situation for him or his players.

Tottenham found a bit of form against Aston Villa in their last game, but they are still far from convincing and I don't think they will be able to spoil the party for the Newcastle fans in the stands.

The atmosphere outside St James' Park is absolutely bouncing.

There's fans in Arabian headdress, there are Saudi flags, but mainly there is a sea of black and white.

This feels like St James' Park has been re-awakened. I've spoken to fans who say they haven't been here in years but that they now feel like they've got their club back, they've got hope, that's all they wanted.

CM: Big respect to Steve Bruce. Maybe not the most talented manager, but kept up a club with less than average players, absolutely horrible owners, and fans who did nothing but attack him. "Fair play to the lad" as they say in football. Hope Newcastle smash Spurs today!

  14. 'State of shock' at St James'published at 16:22 British Summer Time 17 October 2021

    Newcastle v Tottenham (16:30 BST)

    Pat Nevin
Former Scotland winger on BBC Radio 5 Live at St James' Park

I think there's still a state of shock about the place. The fans can have an incredible effect. They can give the team an extra 10% minimum today.

If Spurs can survive the first 10 or 15 minutes then it might go back to some kind of normalty.

But Newcastle can come out with some hope that if they put in a performance, with the fans behind them, then they can get something. That would be phenomenal for the fans and for the owners.

  19. Postpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 17 October 2021

    Newcastle v Tottenham (16:30 BST)

If Tottenham needed any incentive to fill their boots this afternoon, these stats will help...

Winless Newcastle have conceded 16 goals this season and failed to keep a clean sheet - both the joint-worst records in the Premier League heading into the weekend.

And they have kept only two clean sheets in their past 26 Premier League home games and conceded 49 goals.

  20. 1-0 to the Tottenham?published at 16:18 British Summer Time 17 October 2021

    Newcastle v Tottenham (16:30 BST)

If you're banking on a Spurs win today, the smart money is on 1-0. All four of Spurs' Premier League wins this season were by a single-goal margin.

They are currently averaging 10.4 shots per game under Nuno Espirito Santo in the Premier League and have a conversion rate of 8.2%. They averaged 15.7 shots under Mauricio Pochettino at 11.8% conversion, and 11.2 under Jose Mourinho at 15% conversion.

They'll certainly want to avoid a repeat of their two games with Newcastle last season. They dropped four points from winning positions, with the Magpies scoring 90th and 85th-minute equalisers to draw both games.
