I expected Roberto Firmino to score there. If he'd put it either side of David de Gea he would have done, but he hit it pretty much straight at him.

Those lines you like to draw of a back four on Match of a Day, that would have been a squiggle.
Man Utd 0-1 Liverpool
Liverpool have settled down quickly again and could have put the game to bed had Roberto Firmino converted, but the Brazilian's low shot from eight yards out is kept out by David de Gea.
United at sixes and sevens in defence already!

That is some finish and some start by Liverpool. What a lovely ball from Mo Salah and play down the left from Liverpool.
Luke Shaw has to come over but it leaves space for Naby Keita and he just slides it home. It is a very good finish and an amazing start for Liverpool.
Naby Keita
United ripped apart, that is too easy.
The worry for the Red Devils was their defence and it goes missing in the first five minutes.
Roberto Firmino pokes a pass through to Mohamed Salah, who is up against Harry Maguire.
The Egyptian sees the run of Naby Keita and he rolls a cool finish into the bottom corner.

Bruno Fernandes has to score there! It is a good little run and a lovely pass, but he is only 12 yards out and Manchester United should be 1-0 up.
Man Utd 0-0 Liverpool
United should lead in the third minute.
A lovely, sweeping move by the hosts, one touch football from Fred to Cristiano Ronaldo and into Bruno Fernandes in the box.
The Portuguese steadies himself but then loses his composure with the shot, firing wildly over the bar.

James Milner is dependable and will always give you an eight of 10 performance so I don't think that is a bad selection at all.
Man Utd 0-0 Liverpool
Fred with his first action of the game, no nonsense hacking the ball out of play when he got to it ahead of Roberto Firmino.
Had time to control it and find a team-mate though.

The questions about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer probably are fair because the Manchester United fans want those trophies. They are impatient.
Fans see more now and they have social media. They know the game better.
At the end of the season it is about what you've won. It isn't about the programme or where Ole wants to get to. United have to get there quicker.

You can never guarantee when Manchester United will win but I can still see them winning today. What is missing? It is a conundrum.
They don't have a clear style of play like Man City, Chelsea or Liverpool. If they do find that they could be so dangerous, but what is holding them back?

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville on Sky Sports:
"It is like Elvis Presley is in Manchester – Ronaldo is a God.
"United have to find a way of playing with him. I think he needs a focal point because playing on his own does expose him. Not having a focal point exposes him."

That this Ronaldo vs Salah debate even exists is a massive complement to Ronaldo who is miles past the peak of his powers. At 36 players come on with 10 minutes left or they are already on TV analysing games. How he still performs at this level is beyond me.

Mo Salah is at the peak of the world and of the game. He is doing things at the moment that you would expect only Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi to do.
He is the best player in the world at the moment, without a doubt. He is a pleasure to watch.
Manchester United have their work cut out today because Liverpool can tear anyone apart.
United need to be mixing it with and beating the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
They are not at that level at the moment, but they want to be and to do that they need to win games like today.

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness on Sky Sports:
"Ronaldo can genuinely say he has been the best player ever. Does he make Man Utd a better team? No. They have a problem because they can't play the way Ole wants to play.
"They cant be the high-pressing team, because if one person doesn’t commit to the press, teams can get out. He won’t give you that so they will have to play a different brand of football to one that Ole wants to play and that all the best teams play.
"He will excite the crowd but I don’t think he can play every game. I would take him but the conversation has to be ‘you won't start every game but you will have a big influence over nine months’.
"It is a a big decision for Ole to make that we can't be that high-pressing team because one player can’t play like that."

When I first came to Manchester United David de Gea said "tell me, am I better than Manuel Neuer?" and I was like "no, you're not. It is a different level".
He was angry for a bit, but I explained why. Whenever he had a great game he would ask me again and I would still say he wasn't on that level.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp talking to Sky Sports:
"We have to defend at the highest level, we have to be brave, we have to respect their strength, Their individual quality is crazy, their counter-attack threat is massive. It is a special game.
"I can't wait for the first whistle. Hopefully the boys are free to deliver."
