England are leaving so much space at the back. Northern Ireland have managed to get in behind a few times but haven't had the quality needed to punish England. Yes, the hosts are a constant threat going forward but they can't be that open at the back in the quarter-finals.

Matt: VAR back to it's lengthy best!
Mark Burt: England need to be ruthless tonight. There can be no complacency. Winning isn’t a habit you want to break.
Rob Palmer: This is why everyone hates VAR to be honest, it so so so slow.

Northern Ireland have made more contact with the opposition already - they were far too passive against Austria and Norway. Yes at times you're going to give away free-kicks but you've got to use your body and be difficult to play against.
Northern Ireland 0-0 England
Ahhh, they have to do better.
Delightful football from Rebecca Holloway, slicing open the England backline with defence slipping through ball.
Lauren Wade is onto it, but cannot get enough purchase on the shot and the opportunity is gone.
NI won't get many more like that tonight.
Austria 0-0 Norway
Austria are inches away from scoring. The ball drops to Laura Feiersinger on the edge of the box, she lets it bounce and then hits a half-volley.
It should be a simple catch for Guro Pettersen but she fumbles it off the crossbar. It's desperately cleared by Norway with Austria's Nicole Billa getting a whack in the process.

Northern Ireland have to work hard for each other and you can see Rachel Furness dropping into the pocket to make sure she can help out her defence.

I'm not sure the England players were ever really convinced by that penalty decision. But since that first chance for Northern Ireland, they have been building pressure. How long can NI hold out?

This almost sneaks in.

We are happy when VAR is used and it comes to the correct decision. It would have been an injustice if that penalty had stood.
Austria 0-0 Norway
There is a VAR check in Brighton too for a handball... but nobody seems to know what the potential handball was. Or when. Or when. Anyway nothing is given.

That was celebrated like a goal! The Green and White Army loved that one!
Northern Ireland 0-0 England
No penalty!
The referee decides there was an infringement in the build-up and overturns the decision.
It's a free-kick to Northern Ireland instead and they escape.

I think it would be harsh, her arms are clearly down by her side.

The ball hits Laura Rafferty's arm but it's tucked into her body as she turns away to block the ball.

Why is this taking so long? To me it's quite a simple decision.

The ref is coming to the pitchside monitor.
Could it be overturned?

That's not a penalty, it hits her elbow. Northern Ireland are appealing for a handball on Beth Mead so I think if anything this might end up being a free-kick to Northern Ireland.
Rafferty's arm is tucked into her body I think it will be overturned.
Northern Ireland 0-0 England
We wait for the decision.
