  1. 'We knew it would be difficult'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

FT: Man Utd 1-0 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira, speaking to Match of the Day: "I'm disappointed, we gave them a tough game, we made it really difficult for them.

"At the end, conceding the goal we are so disappointed. And we had the chance before, it is frustrating.

"Coming to a place like this we knew it would be difficult and we would have to work together. And when you get opportunities you have to take them and when you don't take them your are left vulnerable."

[On Jordan Ayew's miss] "I am disappointed for Jordan as he had a fantastic game. That is football.

"We need to change our mindset. How can we be more ruthless when we're in the opposition's box? That's something we have to work on.

"We didn't know what to expect from United. We were only concerned with ourselves. As a team, we defended quite well.

"But again, I'm really disappointed with that goal."

  2. 'We dominated'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    FT: Leeds 2-2 Brentford

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa speaking to Match of the Day: "We deserved a point, perhaps we should have won, given the amount of time we dominated the play and in terms of how much danger we caused compared to the opponent. We dominated for an hour of the game and duplicated the number of chances they had, even if it was a game without many chances."

On Patrick Bamford and Luke Ayling returning: "Bamford scored a goalscorer's goal, and his opportunism stood out. You can't teach that. Ayling is a player with personality, he balances our team. He normally makes good decisions and that helps the team become more mature."

On Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips' injuries: "We do not know the extent yet."

"On whether Bamford will feature in coming weeks: "We are going to evaluate whether he is ready to play."

  3. 'It was very cruel'published at 17:26 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    FT: Leeds 2-2 Brentford

    Brentford

Brentford boss Thomas Frank speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "(The result) feels very cruel. I guess it is the round of cruel moments for different teams: Liverpool's late winner, Brighton's late equaliser and now Leeds' late equaliser. We know it can happen in football but I can't praise the players enough. They gave everything."We started very well, then Leeds were on top. We know they play with great intensity. In the second half, we stepped up, pressed high and won the ball high. We were in control. They had two chances in the game and scored two goals. There are positives to take from this game; we have big ambitions but we can't run away. When you have injuries like we did today, three key players out, and do how we did, it is fantastic."

  4. 'It has been frustrating'published at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    FT: Leeds 2-2 Brentford

    Leeds United

Leeds striker Patrick Bamford speaking to Sky Sports: "I felt rusty as hell, but it was nice to be out there. I always felt when I came on that I was going to get one chance. It didn't come for ages and ages and then (Adam) Forshaw said I was going to get one chance and so it happened."

On what Bielsa told him when he came on: "It was just to try and make a presence in the area, don't drop too deep and do what I can, really. I just tried to stay in the box and hoped to get in the right position eventually."

On how it feels to be back: "An ankle injury can drag on so it has been frustrating. There is no specific timescale [for a return], I've been setting my return for about the last six matches. Now that I'm over it, it feels like it has gone fast. Sometimes when you are out through injury, you become a better player because people big you up like a hero. If I hadn't scored people would have said: 'He's not fit, he's not ready'."

Not controversial in the end then, as it looks like the laws of the game say one hand and the ball pushed against the surface is under control.

  6. 'My players are Premier League players'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    FT: Tottenham 3-0 Norwich

    Norwich City

Norwich boss Dean Smith, speaking to BBC Sport: "The game will look to everyone on the outside like it was straightforward for Tottenham. It was anything but that. They were clinical. We need to be more clinical with our chances.

"Performance wise is all we can control. It was up there with what we have done this season. We controlled the ball and had 60% possession. And we created chances.

"They are still the same players but Antonio [Conte] has his ideas. He has won the league here and in Italy. He knows how to win games and that is what we are trying to do.

"The big thing I have said to the players - they are Premier League players. They had moments in that game where they matches Spurs. We need to take belief into the next matches. It is going in the right direction."

  7. 'We have to build a solid base'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    FT: Tottenham 3-0 Norwich

    Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte, speaking to BBC Sport: "I think the game wasn't easy. The final result, we have to be pleased. And with three goals and a clean sheet. But we have to improve. We have space to improve and we have to continue to work. To get three points is important for confidence and the table. We are starting to work in just one month. We did well despite Norwich playing a good game.

"The balance and solidity is very important if you want to improve and reach every target. To have another clean sheet, this is important. But the most important is to create chances. We scored three and had other chances to improve the result. Now we must recover. We play two intensive games in a few days. At one stage today I see fatigue.

"I know for Tottenham, it will be a season of work. Hard work. Only through the work can we improve and to have ambition to improve our position. I have just started. We have to build a solid base and a good foundation if we want to try to be competitive in the future and fight for something important."

  9. The correct decisionpublished at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    HT: Aston Villa 1-1 Leicester

Here's what the laws of the game, external say...

A goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball with the hand(s) when:

    • the ball is between the hands or between the hand and any surface (e.g. ground, own body) or by touching it with any part of the hands or arms except if the ball rebounds from the goalkeeper or the goalkeeper has made a save

Joseph: That's a terrible decision, they've got that one completely wrong. In my book you have to have both hands on the ball to be in control of it.

Sho: Embarrassing decision from the officials. Premier League refereeing gets worse by the week.

He's disallowed the goal?! Have the rules changed?

Kasper Schmeichel only has one hand on the ball. Isn't it supposed to be two?

I'm not even sure if I know the rules anymore.

James Maddison is the latest Foxes player to try their luck and Emi Martinez has to get down quickly to stop his effort. It was direct from the visitors, and slightly worrying for Steven Gerrard how easily they were able to find space.
