GOAL - Man Utd 1-0 Southamptonpublished at 21 mins

    Jadon Sancho

    Cut open!

From the moment Bruno Fernandes' pass releases Marcus Rashford down the right, Southampton are in big trouble.

The England forward has space to drive in to and then a man at the back post to find in Jadon Sancho. He does so and Sancho's shot finds the net despite Kyle Walker-Peters' best efforts to stop it.

    Man Utd 0-0 Southampton

Saints have to dig in to see off some home pressure. The ball is played around near the edge of the box, but the defensive line is strong and United can't find a gap.

Joseph: Southampton out to win. They really want to go toe to toe. Pogba and Sancho amazing. Ronaldo needs to be sharper.

Maya: Two teams with different expenditure but equal quality battling each other.

  4. YELLOW CARDpublished at 16 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Southampton

Marcus Rashford into the book. It's a poor sliding tackle on Romain Perraud that is nowhere near the ball that prompts it.

  5. Postpublished at 16 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Southampton

Paul Pogba's cross loops too high for the unmarked Cristiano Ronaldo in the box as both teams continue to create opportunities.

  6. Postpublished at 15 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Southampton

The corner is taken short but Stuart Armstrong's return pass is poor and the home side can clear.

Saints win a corner. They're giving it a go.

End to end stuff so far with both sets of supporters being brought to their feet.

Bruno Fernandes is doing a lot of directing during breaks in play, telling Raphael Varane to keep an eye on the space down the right then turning to Jadon Sancho and suggesting the England international to cut inside from the left hand touchline.

    Man Utd 0-0 Southampton

Marcus Rashford is found down the right by a long ball. His touch is spot on but he can't compete for strength with Mohammed Salisu.

  10. Postpublished at 12 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Southampton

Saints are chasing a big achievement today.

They can become the second club in the last five seasons to remain unbeaten in all four Premier League fixtures versus Man United and Man City in a single season, after Wolves in 2019-20 (W2-D2-L0).

Thomas: Ronaldo keeps making noises about being unhappy at United. Well maybe if his finishing wasn't awful the team might get more points. Needs so many big chances per goal at the moment.

    Man Utd 0-0 Southampton

Someone put it in the net! At either end!

Saints have three opportunities to score in one attack, with Kyle Walker-Peters meeting the ball at the back post, Che Adams having to dive backwards to try and get a header and then James Ward-Prowse's follow up blocked.

United then break and Jadon Sancho - who has started brilliantly - seeing an attempted poked shot past Fraser Forster saved by the keeper.

    Breathless.

    No way this ends 0-0.

    Romain Perraud to the rescue!

Another good, driving run from Jadon Sancho sets United away and from his pass, Cristiano Ronaldo skips around the keeper and shoots in target.

Saints left-back Perraud has charged back, though, and slides in to stop the ball finding the net.

    Man Utd 0-0 Southampton

    Yep, Southampton are confident.

Che Adams goes for goal from 40 yards out but sends his effort way over the bar.

  16. Postpublished at 5 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Southampton

    Oh, almost.

Jadon Sancho runs into the away box and pokes a ball back towards Bruno Fernandes, but Oriol Romeu is there to intercept and put the ball behind.

Everyone in red and white is shocked to see the ref award a goal-kick.

  17. Postpublished at 4 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Southampton

Marcus Rashford's turn to send in a testing ball. His dipping cross from deep skips ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo in the box.

    Bright opening.

  18. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Man Utd 0-0 Southampton

Young Armando Broja is really starting to make a name for himself on loan from Chelsea. He drives down the right and fires a low ball between the home defence and keeper.

Mohamed Elyounoussi pointed to where he wanted the ball - where Broja put it - but ran the other. Strange.

Jadon Sancho tries to link up with Luke Shaw deep in Saints territory, but Stuart Armstrong sticks well to his task and sees the ball out.

Saints straight into that high pressing game, putting the United defence - and Luke Shaw in particular - under pressure.
