  1. Alli close to Everton movepublished at 16:18 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Everton are close to completing a permanent deal for Tottenham's former England midfield man Dele Alli.

New Everton manager Frank Lampard made the 25-year-old a priority and believes he can rebuild a career that has stalled in recent years, making just six appearances under Spurs boss Antonio Conte.

The full details of the deal are yet to be disclosed but it is believed the fee will be linked to appearances and he will sign a two-and-a-half-year deal at Everton.

Everton had to complete a permanent deal because their loan quota is taken up the signings of Anwar El Ghazi from Aston Villa and Manchester United's Donny van de Beek.

    Wolves

    Richard Hobbs, Wolves Fancast

Wolves have sent Bruno Jordao out on loan to the club’s unofficial feeder club, Grasshopper Zurich.

This means Wolves are left with three senior central midfielders, which includes Leander Dendoncker, who doesn’t fir greatly to the system.

Wolves fans are currently in Groundhog Day, experiencing the same situation as the last transfer deadline day in the summer.

I understand the difficulty of bringing in a player of the right quality who would probably not be a guaranteed starter. But Wolves look thread bare if injuries or suspension hit.

This could be a sliding doors moment for Luke Cundle. The 19-year-old youngster might have a chance to shine if called upon during the remainder of the season.

As a Man City fan I understand the ire of the envious Newcastle are attracting, unfortunately jealousy means some want any football upward mobility quashed & the power to remain in the hands of a select few clubs. Tis silly.

The fax machine is getting some use at Bournemouth.

The Championship side have got another player through the door as defender Nat Phillips joins from Liverpool on loan for the rest of the season.

It’s understood that Manchester City winger Luke Bolton is set to leave the blues on a permanent deal.

There’s interest from at least one League Two side. Bolton spent last season on loan with Scottish Premiership side Dundee United.

  7. Lampard 'the most sensible choice'published at 15:55 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

From the candidates that were on the shortlist for the Everton job, Frank Lampard was definitely the best. He did a really good job at Derby and then at Chelsea he got them into the Champions League when they were not allowed to sign anyone.

He's coming to Everton and we don't have much to spend either so I think he's the most sensible choice.

Tactically, he'll get us playing attacking football on the floor rather than just pinging it at Dominic Calvert-Lewin. It doesn't always work that a world class player makes a world class manager but things are looking brighter under him.

It's going to be really strange seeing him for Everton though - as a player he always scored absolute whoppers against us. He ruined our only cup final in 27 years when he scored the winner in 2009.

If his ultimate aim is to get the Chelsea job again, then he'll need to do well somewhere. If that's for us, then I'll be very happy.

Manchester City have now made the move so many of our Football Manager players have this year - signing Argentine standout Julian Alvarez from River Plate.

The 22-year-old striker, who can also operate effectively off the wings, propelled River to the 2021 Primera Division title, finishing the season as the league's top goalscorer with 18 goals.

Blessed with typically South American flair and a penchant for shots from outside the box, Alvarez's tendency to play quick one-twos and effectively run the channels will surely evoke memories for City fans of a couple of his countrymen who knew a thing or two about scoring goals in the Premier League.

Paul: If arsenal let Aubameyang go without another striker brought in that’s bad enough. But it’s even worse if we somehow still pay some of his wages. Either Barca should pay it all or no deal but we are badly run so no doubt we will prove a soft touch again.

Aaron Ramsey is in Glasgow for a medical to join Rangers on loan from Juventus, BBC Scotland understands.

The Wales midfielder, 31, has been in talks with the Scottish Premiership leaders, who visit Celtic on Wednesday.

Ramsey has not appeared for Juve since making a substitute appearance in the Champions League in October.

The former Arsenal and Cardiff City player could become Rangers' third January transfer window signing.

  18. A quiet day at the King Powerpublished at 15:12 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Leicester City

Chris Forryan, Leicester Till I Die

It looks like deja vu for Leicester City this window.

With owners whose business is so heavily linked to the travel industry is it any wonder after the past two years that the coffers are empty? Brendan has publicly stated as much more than once this month.

Go back to January 2020 and we made one signing on 31 January, Gordon’s brother Ryan Bennett on loan from Wolves. There was an option to buy but with most players thinking he played more like Gordon this was never really on the cards.

£15m unexpectedly spent on Jannik Vestergaard due to Wesley Fofana’s injury stretched our budget, and with James Justin, Fofana & Jonny Evans due back there is really no need to buy yet another central defender.

So unless the lottery comes up expect a quiet, but understandably so, window from Leicester City. While as fans we understand this, we all hope for that one deadline day surprise signing, possibly of a centre-back, because this is our biggest problem area atm.

  20. Everton eyeing up Delepublished at 15:05 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Phil McNulty
    BBC Sport chief football writer

Frank Lampard is in the door as Everton manager. Donny van de Beek is on the verge of signing. Is there time for another development.

Everton are looking at the possibility of signing Spurs misfit Dele Alli, a player much admired by Lampard but who has figured in only six games under manager Antonio Conte.

The added complication is that Everton's loan quota is full after the deals for Van de Beek and Anwar El Ghazi from Aston Villa.

This means Everton would have to sign Alli permanently and time may be against agreeing a deal with Spurs. One to watch.

For more updates, analysis and reaction as deadline day unfolds go to the Everton page.
