  1. £15m off the Arsenal wage billpublished at 20:16 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Ian Dennis
BBC Radio 5 Live senior football reporter

No incomings likely to replace Aubameyang.

He hasn’t played for Arsenal since 6 December because of a disciplinary breach but has only scored four goals in 14 appearances in the Premier League this season.

It will be a considerable saving with wages in the region of 15m.

  2. Palace bid £1m for Derby striker Plangepublished at 20:14 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Crisis club Derby are set for a much-needed £1m windfall for young striker Luke Plange.

Derby have accepted a bid from Crystal Palace for the 19-year-old, who joined the Rams in the summer after being released by Arsenal.

Plange has impressed this term and scored Derby’s first goal in their memorable 2-2 comeback draw against Birmingham yesterday.

However, the deal is attractive because Palace have agreed to loan Plange back to Derby for the remainder of the season.

Although the Championship club are not allowed to register new players due to their current financial position, Football League rules allow Plange to stay on at Derby providing his wage stays the same.

Providing the deal goes through, it could give the club’s administrators vital breathing space as they try to save the club.

The EFL have extended a deadline to the beginning of March for the administrators to show they have enough funds to get through to the end of the season.

Daniel: Aubameyang not scoring goals, setting a poor example & on a huge salary. Great move by Arteta - Auba & Ozil out, that's £550k a week salary saved and the team isn't really worse off.

NuddsyB: Auba to Barca on a free? He was never the same after Arsenal went all out to give him a big contract, same as Ozil. Onwards and upwards now give the young guns a chance.

This will be a late one but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona is expected to happen.

It's likely to be a permanent deal and probably won’t involve a fee but it will represent a huge saving in wages for Arsenal.

Adam: If Arsenal don’t sign a player in this window, and then we fail to finish in the Top 4, Arteta & Edu are done. There have been plenty of outgoings including Aubameyang and Chambers, and yet not a single inbound replacement.

K: Arsenal are essentially one injury, one red card away from dropping out of the top 4 race... all rivals have strengthened while we have been busy with a car boot sale! Oh and we are yet to score this year. Brilliant.

  12. How do they do it?published at 19:50 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

  17. 'Brutal' for Van de Beek at Unitedpublished at 19:39 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Adam Crafton
Reporter for The Athletic, speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live's Monday Night Club

The brutal thing from Donny van de Beek for Man United is that even if he's been getting on the pitch as a substitute, it's always after 78 or 80 minutes, the last throw of the dice when they're 2-0 down to Man City - what is he meant to do?

It must strip you as a player of confidence when you're put into that hopeless scenario time and time again.

When Ralf Ragnick came in we all thought that would be his chance, but Rangnick's started him in one match against Young Boys.

  18. Lampard 'influence' key to Van de Beek's Everton switchpublished at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2022

    Everton

Donny van de Beek became Frank Lampard's first signing at Everton after joining on loan from Manchester United.

The Dutch midfielder has been starved of opportunities at Old Trafford making just four Premier League starts since his arrival from Ajax in August 2020.

But he says he is ready to help the struggling Blues climb up the table from their lowly 16th spot.

“I hope to bring my football qualities, my passing, and, of course, scoring goals," he said.

"It is a big part of my game to score and give assists and I will try to do that again. And it is not only offensive, you have to defend as a midfielder and I can do that as well.

“I had a really positive meeting with the new coach. We have the same ideas about football and he had a lot of influence on my decision.

“I played against him when I was at Ajax, and he was at Chelsea [as manager], so he knows me as a player. He thinks I have qualities that can help the team. I can learn a lot from him because he was a little bit in the same position – a midfield player who scored a lot of goals."
