Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen on making his first start: "If you take the win with it, it felt very good. To play 90 minutes, it's been a long time. Thomas [Frank] asked me this morning if I felt good to play 90 and I said OK. Learning how the team plays gets easier every day and playing the game obviously helps.

"Personally for me it's been about getting back to full fitness. I have always been the guy trying to sort out things and help the team play better and that won't be different here. I need to get to know people but it's not something I'm scared of."

On team-mate Ivan Toney: "He's really impressed me, how he plays, how he goes into games, how he is as a player and a person, he's a very exciting player.

"I wouldn't say it's a new chapter, it's my life continuing. I had a setback but it's about getting my family back to being a normal family and being here now is incredible for us."

Brighton & Hove Albion

Brighton boss Graham Potter, speaking to BBC MOTD: "We are really frustrated and disappointed with the result. We started well but it was a poor goal from our perspective to go 1-0 down. There is a lot of positivity around Newcastle and a lot of credit has to go to Eddie [Howe] and his staff."

On Christian Eriksen's full debut: "Good to see him out there playing 90 minutes. It was top delivery for the first goal. There were top passes when he tried to find players in behind. You can see there's more to come from him which is a positive.

"It's never down to one of two players, it's the team. The team knows that. But of course every team needs their best players. We missed Toney, and the quality and the ability Christian gives us is a big plus.

"The fans today were amazing, you could hear them from the off to the end. Loud, singing, cheering and we need that. It's about whether together we can push forward."

This is more like it from West Ham as they create another opportunity. Nikola Vlasic's cross is half-cleared to head-banded Tomas Soucek, whose 20-yard first-time shot is saved down low by Alisson.

First proper chance for West Ham as Michail Antonio runs onto a clipped ball over the top but his shot from a tight angle is palmed over the bar by Alisson.

It was a difficult week, with the League Cup final and difficult trips to Luton and Burnley, but they have actually come out of it really well.
