The players have just stood around the centre circle applauding in recognition of what is happening in Ukraine.

The Kop joined in, and also sang 'You'll never walk alone' for a second time, having already done it for their team during the warm-ups.

Whilst games are being shown in Russia this weekend as the Premier League looks to get out of its TV deal in the country, league sources feel the messaging getting across to normal Russian citizens through their TV screens might not be a bad thing.

    Liverpool 0-0 West Ham

Another Reds chance, again created by a Trent Alexander-Arnold free-kick. TAA crosses and Virgil van Dijk, facing in the wrong direction to shoot properly, tries to flick a backheel towards goal.

It hits Tomas Soucek and should be a corner but the ref says goal-kick.

  3. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Liverpool 0-0 West Ham

Liverpool have a big chance within two minutes.

Nikola Vlasic is caught offside and then Trent Alexander-Arnold catches everyone out with a quickly taken long free-kick.

Mohamed Salah is in on goal, one on one, but Lukasz Fabianski denies him. Salah shouldn't have given him a chance.

Luis Díaz is the first Liverpool player to make each of his first four Premier League appearances for the club all at Anfield since Raheem Sterling in 2012.

  5. 'We lost ourselves'published at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    FT: Burnley 0-4 Chelsea

    Burnley

Burnley manager Sean Dyche, speaking to Sky Sports: "The first goal affected us massively. We arguably could have gone 1-0 up by half-time.

"It was a solid display with a lot of pleasing parts. Then we came out for the second half and conceded a soft goal that affected us. They capitalised and we didn’t.

"We just went away from what we were doing in the first half. Our shape and pressing were excellent, but in the second half after we conceded the first goal we lost it.

"Once the game gets away from you against this type of side it’s very difficult. After going 1-0 down against Manchester United we came back and got a point, but we just lost ourselves for seven or eight minutes here."

  9. 'Incredible atmosphere'published at 17:28 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    FT: Newcastle 2-1 Brighton

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to BBC MOTD: "To go any length of games unbeaten is good because you are only one match away from a difficult game. What we did have to do is defend really well and when it went 2-1 we did that.

"There has been some growth in the team. All I ask is the players give me everything. The fans knew the importance of the game and they helped us. The atmosphere was incredible. The only disappointing thing for me is we don't have a game at home now for a few weeks."

Liverpool v West Ham (17:30 GMT)

    • Liverpool have only lost one of their last 48 home league games against West Ham (W35 D12), losing 3-0 under Brendan Rodgers in August 2015.
    • The Hammers are looking to complete the Premier League double over Liverpool for just the second time, previously doing so in 2015-16. Their 3-2 victory in the reverse fixture this season was their first league win against the Reds since that campaign.
    • Liverpool have won their last six Premier League games by an aggregate score of 18-2. At home, the Reds are unbeaten in 17 league games (W13 D4), winning the last eight by an aggregate score of 26-2.
    • The Reds (12) and West Ham (9) have scored more goals from corners than any other Premier League sides so far this season. Between them just five of their 54 goals conceded this term have come from corner situations (3/20 for Liverpool, and 2/34 for West Ham).

  15. Big Rice blow for West Hampublished at 17:25 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Liverpool v West Ham (17:30GMT)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Anfield

That is a major blow for West Ham.

Declan Rice is both a key cog in the Hammers' midfield as well as being their leader.

With one win in their last 51 visits to Anfield, they have a terrible record to start with.

The absence of Rice does not suggest it will be improved today.

  16. Reminder of the teams...published at 17:24 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

Liverpool v West Ham (17:30 GMT)

Liverpool make eight changes to the team that beat Norwich in the FA Cup in midweek.

Alisson, Ibrahima Konate and captain Jordan Henderson keep their places in the side. Naby Keita is passed fit to start, while Curtis Jones is on the bench after recovering from a thigh injury.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Henderson, Keita, Salah, Diaz, Mane

Subs: Kelleher, Milner, Gomez, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jones, Minamino, Jota, Origi, Elliot

No Declan Rice for West Ham, who make three changes to the side that lost to Southampton in the cup.

The Hammers skipper is replaced in midfield by Nikola Vlasic. Aaron Cresswell returns after missing the trip to St Mary’s and Lukasz Fabianski replaces Alphonse Areola in goal.

West Ham XI: Fabianski, Johnson, Dawson, Zouma, Cresswell, Soucek, Vlasic, Fornals, Lanzini, Bowen, Antonio

Subs: Areola, Noble, Benrahma, Diop, Fredericks, Masuaku, Kral, Okoflex, Chesters

  17. 'It shows the guys have what it takes to play for Chelsea'published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Burnley 0-4 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel speaking to Sports Report on BBC Radio 5 Live: "It shows a lot of character and that's why I am very proud.

"We played a very strong match at Wembley, we lost.

"Three days later we accepted a whole different challenge in the FA Cup at Luton, we turned the game around after twice going behind.

"Then we come to Turf Moor three days later and do it again.

"We were very impressive and I am very happy because it shows the character and that the guys have what it takes to play for Chelsea.

"They are focussed and obviously we have an atmosphere where they can still focus on football, which is good."

  18. 'Fans with us from first minute'published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    FT: Newcastle 2-1 Brighton

    Newcastle United

Newcastle's Ryan Fraser, speaking to BBC MOTD: "Everyone has been terrific. Even in training yesterday the players who weren't playing could have sulked but the spirit is really good.

"We know how good a team Brighton are. We would have liked to have kept the ball a little bit better than we did. We were a bit sloppy. But we fought and won our battles and that gave us the win.

"Our fans expect us to work hard. We didn't play well today but they were with us from minute one."

  19. 'Coutinho back to his Liverpool form'published at 17:22 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Aston Villa 4-0 Southampton

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard to BBC Match of the Day: "It could have been bigger, without Fraser Forster it could have been five or six. We deserved a clean sheet - we had a collective unity today, we worked hard and put our bodies on the lines. We scored four magnificent goals, and they were all different. What pleased me was the fact that we controlled the game, I don't think anyone can take that away from us.

"All of the good play and the good teams always have that base that is tough to play against and they work hard for each other and then your quality players do the job in the final third and I think that was the case we did today.

"We've got Phil [Coutinho] back fit and in a really good place - he was back to his Liverpool form today and he was a touch above. The other players have got a lift from him. It is about having players running in behind for him and Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings were untouchable at times today too. When Phil is in the mood he is a world class player. He probably finished my career a couple of years early, he's the reason I've got screws in my knees and groins!

"The fans deserved a strong away performance last week and I think we owed the fans that today on the back of a poor Watford performance. The responsibility is on us to lift the crowd.

"Every manager is after consistency. The mood in the changing room s good but we've got to reset and Leeds will be a tough game because they'll have that new manager bounce. If we can build on this performance I'm confident that we can deliver again."
