  1. Lawro's predictionpublished at 17:18 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

Liverpool v West Ham (17:30 GMT)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

I'm at this game and it will not be straightforward for Liverpool - they know how much of a handful West Ham are at their best after being beaten by them at London Stadium in November.

The problem for the Hammers, however, is that they have to keep asking the same players to get them results, every week. As we've seen, Liverpool have got the squad now to rest players and still get the outcome they want.

    Lawro's prediction: 2-0

  2. 'The first goal helped us massively'published at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    FT: Burnley 0-4 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, speaking to Sky Sports: "We played a bit more fluid in the second half. We needed a reminder of what we want to do. We needed to create more problems for them in the back four and find the spaces better. It was still very calm and trustful. We knew we could do better but we respected the place where we are.

"The first goal helped massively today. It gave us a lot of belief. When Burnley are in the situation they’re in they make it very hard for you. It was very important to stay positive and not get frustrated. We were more decisive up front. The front players stepped up and turned the game."

On Reece James: "To have such a huge impact in all three games – Liverpool, Luton and today – is impressive. These positions are crucial when you play with wing-backs and want to attack with wing-backs. He was brilliant and opened the whole game for us."

On off-field matters: "I think the performance at Wembley also showed that we’re focused on sports. From then on it’s been the same. The team stepped up and didn’t get distracted and were ready to battle again today. It shows their character and I’m very proud of them."

  3. 'Eriksen made a massive difference'published at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Norwich 1-3 Brentford

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Norwich defending? In the second half it was as if all their players just gave up. Strange to see but you have to give credit to Brentford.

It is still going to be difficult for Brentford but it was a massive result.

Christian Eriksen made a massive difference - he was not exceptional but he was a cut above the rest. Some of his delivery was brilliant.

  4. Postpublished at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

Liverpool v West Ham (17:30 GMT)

No Andriy Yarmolenko again for West Ham.

The Ukraine captain is not ready to play yet following the Russian invasion of his homeland.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson wrote in his programme notes: "As club captain, I would like to use these notes to let him know that everyone at Liverpool FC stands with him.

“Today is a day when the Premier League as a whole will demonstrate its support for Ukraine and as a club we are more than happy to play our part in that.”

  5. Postpublished at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

Liverpool v West Ham (17:30 GMT)

Liverpool can close the gap on leaders Manchester City to only three points if they beat West Ham this evening.

West Ham, on the other hand, know a win would take them into the Champions League places.

  6. 'We did the nasty stuff well'published at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    FT: Newcastle 2-1 Brighton

    Newcastle United

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe, speaking to Sky Sports: "In terms of result, it's absolutely fantastic for us. We said pre-game nothing has changed and that we are still in a relegation fight. We still are.

"I have a lot of respect for Brighton. They are a tough opponent. We knew we would be tactically tested.

"We showed mental toughness especially at 2-1. When they scored the game was very much in the balance but we handled it well. We defended well and put our bodies on the line and did the nasty stuff really well.

"We have got a lot of work to do to be where we want to be. I am very realistic and I know how quickly football can change.

The supporters have been unbelievable. Today, we needed them to help us over the line. I cannot thank them enough."

We have become quite used to the sight of Jurgen Klopp watching Liverpool's pre-match warm-up but David Moyes is out there today as well.

In fact, there was a period when the respective managers were both watching the opposition.

I am not quite sure what they might learn but they are not wasting the opportunity.

  8. 'Coutinho is a joy to play with'published at 17:12 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Aston Villa 4-0 Southampton

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa goalscorer Ollie Watkins speaking to BBC Match of the Day about Philippe Coutinho: "Sometimes he thinks too quickly for you, so I have to go off his body movement and sometimes I've gone the opposite way. He's too sharp - he thinks quicker than anyone else.

"I can't speak highly enough about him to be honest. It's a joy to play with him, and Ingsy, and hopefully we can do this more often to teams.

"We've had a bit of a sticky spell but we've got to find some consistency and be hard to beat. We've got a lot of good technical players, so it is about doing the ugly side."

  9. 'We're constantly getting better'published at 17:11 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    FT: Burnley 0-4 Chelsea

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "The first goal helped us. In these matches that are so tight, that obviously gives you a lot of confidence.

"It’s a good performance overall because it’s not easy to come to Turf Moor. It was a good team performance, very focused. It improves my impression that we’re constantly getting better and better. We deserved to win and it was a very good second half.

"The pitch was incredibly dry so it was not easy to play fast. The ball was constantly stuck between our legs. When you don’t win the second balls you can be in trouble. We never lost the positivity and trust in ourselves. In the second half we found the spaces better and that was the key."

On Reece James: "It’s incredible how much quality he brings to the team. You keep forgetting it because he’s eight or nine weeks out and you get used to the situation.

"Then he comes back and you remember the influence he can have. It’s the same for Ben Chilwell. They’re hugely important for the structure of this team."

  10. Klopp rates Moyes as manager of year contenderpublished at 17:09 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Liverpool v West Ham (17:30GMT)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Anfield

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp opens his programme notes today with some high praise for opposite number David Moyes.

"It's hard to understate how highly he's respected by all of us who also do this job in England," said Klopp.

"He's smart and he sets his teams up really well, while still giving them the freedom and licence to express themselves.

"At the moment, he would be a very strong contender for 'Manager of the Season'."

  11. 'Not the end of the world'published at 17:07 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Aston Villa 4-0 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl to Sky Sports: "We couldn't compete today - we weren't good enough in the duels. We had problems with the shape and it was too easy to concede goals today. It was the first time in a long time we haven't scored a goal and we weren't sharp enough today.

"It was tough after conceding a third goal and we had a few changes and it got a bit better but everything was wrong today.

"Today was not our best day. We haven't lost for a long time, so it does not feel good, but I also didn't think we'd win every game till the end of the season so it's not the end of the world for us.

"We need to show good fight and good behaviour and we have to do better in the duels in our next game because Newcastle are also fighting."

  13. 'One of the best atmospheres in the world'published at 17:05 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    FT: Newcastle 2-1 Brighton

    Newcastle United

Newcastle's Ryan Fraser, speaking to Sky Sports: "It's eight unbeaten now and to do that in the Premier League, we're shooting up the table. We don't want to look back.

"It was a difficult game. We sat back when we shouldn't have. To see out the game, there were nervy moments but it's a massive win."

On the atmosphere: "It gives you goosebumps the minute you walk out. What a place to be. These are the moments why I signed for this club. It's got one of the best atmospheres in the world, it's just rocking. We have got to look up but you know how quickly the Premier League can change."

  14. 'Coutinho was sensational'published at 17:05 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Aston Villa 4-0 Southampton

    Chris Wise
BBC Radio 5 Live at Villa Park

Four Villa goals under Steven Gerrard for the first time. And they’ve comprehensively picked off one of the Premier League’s form teams.

Philippe Coutinho was sensational today. Ran the show, so that’s probably why Gerrard took him off before the end to give him the standing ovation that his performance warranted.

  17. 'Everything went wrong today'published at 17:04 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Aston Villa 4-0 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl to BBC Match of the Day: "It was not enough today from our side. We had big problems with their two strikers and Coutinho - they were not easy to stop. We had problems at the back and we changed to five at the back and we still conceded two silly goals. Everything went wrong today. We thought we could play pretty football today and that simply isn't enough in the Premier League.

"It was not an easy week because we had a tough game and they had a week off. It was harder for us to prepare for this game and we had problems with the shape. I tried to stay with it in the first half, but conceding the second goal just before half-time was decisive for us. We were better with five at the back.

"We have a chance against Newcastle on Thursday to show a different face and that's what we'll work on."

  19. 'It was quite easy not to celebrate'published at 17:02 Greenwich Mean Time 5 March 2022

    Aston Villa 4-0 Southampton

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa goalscorer Danny Ings: "It was a great win against a very tough opponent. We handled the press quite well. We could have been better on the ball to play through it but overall we have to be delighted with that performance.

"Partnerships take time and me and Ollie have been working so hard on the training pitch to try and build a partnership. There was some nice stuff today and hopefully we can keep going together.

"It was quite easy not to celebrate because i have so much respect for Southampton - they almost gave me a second chance in football and I am so grateful for that and I always will be. It was a mixed emotion kind of day for me."

Ings scored 41 goals in 91 Premier League appearances for Southampton between 2018 and 2021.
