Caglar Soyuncu's hand should not be up there. It does clip his hand. If VAR call him to look at it, a penalty is going to be given.

Great work by Gabriel Martinelli as he manages to keep the ball in play after skipping Ricardo Pereira's shot. He cuts it back to Alexandre Lacazette, whose shot is blocked before Kasper Schmeichel punches away Bukayo Saka's hooked effort.

JChesterUnited: Arsenal are statistically the most unlucky team in terms of incorrect decisions awarded against them. So this "dark side" nonsense is just that, nonsense.

Luke: Dark arts? Arsenal finally playing like the other Premier League teams and the fans don't like it? The hypocrisy is just as pathetic as the play acting.

  9. 'Could White not get into the England team?'published at 17:38 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    Arsenal 1-0 Leicester

Ben White has had a good game. He is so comfortable in possession. Could he not get into the England team? I know there are a lot of centre-halves, but he is a good centre-half playing in a top-four team.

Nice idea from Ben White as Kieran Tierney fires the ball into the box at pace and the defender tries a little flick but he can't direct it on target.

    Worth a go.

  12. 'It makes a mockery of VAR'published at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live on the decision not to award a penalty for Trevoh Chalobah's challenge on Jacob Murphy: "I have just seen it again. It had a feeling of a penalty at the time but when you watch it again, how that has not been given with VAR I don't know?

"It makes a mockery of VAR, to be honest, if that is not used and given in the way that it should do.

"It is a clear foul. He's ripped the shirt off his back. It is a clear penalty, I can't understand it."

On the referee reportedly being told not to go to the monitor: "It's ridiculous, it's absolutely ridiculous. You are telling me...I don't want to get myself into trouble so I will leave it there."

  13. 'Havertz is absolutely on the right path'published at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle

    Chelsea

More from Thomas Tuchel's interview with BBC Match of the Day: "It was a big three points for us. It was a tough match against a physically strong, well organised opponent. We had to be tough to give ourselves a chance to land the sucker punch and we did that with a quality finish.

"I was impressed with the way we played down the clock after that and almost scored a second one. It shows how much a change in confidence and rhythm it gives you when you finally get the goal."

On Kai Havertz's match-winning goal and performance: "It was a goal of real quality from a real quality player. He is a top character and on absolutely the right path in his development. He is so reliable and very strong."

  14. 'There are a lot of games to get the points that we need'published at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    FT: Everton 0-1 Wolves

    Everton

Everton manager Frank Lampard tells Match of the Day: "I thought we were the better team in the first half. Wolves always give you a tight game. They don’t score much but they don’t concede much. We played well, not getting the goal and then their goal changes the game in a big sense because it brought out the nervousness in us. We must keep our head up and the important thing now is to remain positive.

On mental strength: "There is still a long way to go. We are understanding of that. It’s easy to react very quickly and strongly to the way we are at. There are a lot of games where we need to keep mental strength.

"We came into a club on a bad run. You get used to losing games and that isn’t something that turns instantly. We must stay very balanced and make sure we stay very together and know there are a lot of games to get the points that we need".

  15. 'We have a responsibility to fight for everyone'published at 17:32 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle

    Chelsea

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel talking to BBC Match of the Day: "This result has a huge impact on us, to give this pleasure to our fans means a lot. It changes everything.

"We demand a lot from our players. We are in a situation we can't influence. In one way it is bad because you feel you have no control, but in another way it allows us to focus on what we can influence - in our performance and in the spirit we show.

"We are aware how privileged we are. This is a huge club, we are in the focus, but we are very privileged. Hundreds of people in this club are not so privileged, maybe face a more existential threat and are more worried about their future than us.

"This gives us a responsibility to fight for them, keep their heads up high and not give in. This is what we can do and this is what they demand from us."

  16. 'There are a lot of games to get the points that we need'published at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    FT: Everton 0-1 Wolves

    Everton

Everton manager Frank Lampard tells Sky Sports his assessment of the game: "The goal changes the game because it completely changes the atmosphere in the stadium. We had to try to react to that and then as we started to react we lose a man later in the game. It is what it is, we lose the game and have to look to the next.

"When you’re in the moment when things aren’t going for you, you have to keep working until things turn in your favour. We have belief here but at the moment it’s tough. It’s been a long time since the club has not been winning the games we want. We have to keep fighting and keep working, simple as that.

"The Premier League gives you tough games every game. We need to turn a corner somehow. It can only come through work and confidence. Everyone wants the same thing here. We want to stay in the Premier League but the first thing is to keep fighting for it.

On if he still believes he can keep Everton up, he said: "Of course".

  17. 'We switched off for a split second and got punished'published at 17:31 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

    Chelsea 1-0 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It was really disappointing to lose our unbeaten run in that way. We have defended so well in a really diligent way. We were tactically excellent but got hit by a sucker punch at the end.

"We back our ourselves, but just switched off for a split second and got punished."

"It is a real testament to the players - what they have given with their spirit, work rate and pressing in first half. I we thought tired in second half but that is to be expected considering the players we have out and how stretched the squad is right now.

"But you can't look back. I was pleased with the performance. In terms of effort given, I can't fault it.

"We gave them too much space for the goal and just switched off, which is rare for our back five because we have been very good."

  19. 'We lost the game on moments'published at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

FT: West Ham 2-1 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Speaking to BBC Sport, Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard said: "I think we lost the game on moments. We were keeping the ball well but we didn’t create as much as wanted. At 0-0 at half-time, away from home, we were in an OK place.

"I never thought there were two goals against us in the game, but we have to look at ourselves defensively because we have ourselves to blame. We managed to get a fantastic goal and take West Ham to the wire but their second goal was very hurtful to us.

"The game was decided by moments that went against us and we couldn't do more with the moments we had. We have a few bumps and bruises so we have to recover well before Arsenal net week.

"We are satisfied in a lot of areas. We started the job in 16th and we are 9th. There are still areas we can improve, we want to finish as high as we can.

"I have been around this league for a long time. I might be inexperienced in standing on the side but I've been around a lot of football matches. A big thing I'm trying to improve on is staying balanced and calm when things go against you. Hopefully next time we go to West Ham, the moments will be in our favour."

On Villa fans applauding Andriy Yarmolenko's celebration: "The Villa fans have been absolutely class with me. They are educated people, in terms of football, and I'm not surprised at that class. The kid scores good goal and he has been through a lot so we send him our regards."

  20. 'There are more important things in life than football'published at 17:30 Greenwich Mean Time 13 March 2022

FT: West Ham 2-1 Aston Villa

    West Ham United

Speaking to BBC Sport, West Ham boss David Moyes said: "We have given the boy [Andriy Yarmolenko] as much time as he needs. His family are safe at the moment, he tells me. He wants to make sure everybody is fine and he has a lot going on. Sometimes, football is a release and hopefully he has had a bit of a release getting on the pitch again and scoring but there are more important things in life than football.

"The goal is great. He has great technical ability and he is capable of scoring big goals, as he has done for me since I've been here. We needed it because we haven't been scoring that many goals, but today we got two. I thought we looked comfortable then but we gave them a goal back.

"I thought we played well. There wasn't much in the game. I thought we played well in Seville and at Anfield, and if you put in good performances you will get some wins as well.

"The Premier League is really tight. You look at the sides at the bottom and they are hanging in there. There are three or four teams at the top who are excellent and then there other teams fighting for the next spots."

On injuries: "We have got we have got and we have nine Premier League games to go. The boys have bee brilliant with lots of character."
