Imran Louza's corner is cleared to the edge of the box and Moussa Sissoko's boot is way too high as he tries to challenge Mohamed Salah.

The referee plays advantage initially as Liverpool want to break but pulls it back for a free-kick when it's clear Salah isn't getting there.

Oops. Alisson is hurried by Cucho Hernandez but gets it clear. The Watford striker catches him late but the referee ignores it, much to the distaste of the Anfield crowd.

Liverpool are starting to dominate possession now. Watford have settled into a compact shape and the hosts are trying to unpick them.

Andy Robertson's free-kick is straight into Ben Foster's arms. Watford try to break but Robertson intercepts.

It eventually goes to Diogo Jota, who skews one up to the clouds.

Ismaila Sarr is offside but the flag is late as he crosses it into the middle, way too far ahead of Joao Pedro.

Liverpool go down the other end but Joe Gomez's low cut-back is hoofed away by Christian Kabasele.

Moussa Sissoko wins a corner for Watford on the right which Imran Louza will take.

It's aimed towards Cucho Hernandez at the near post and he gets a decent flick on it. It's straight at Alisson though.

Thiago is falling over as he tries to slide in to stop Juraj Kucka, giving away a free-kick in the end.

Watford won't rush it.

Curtis Jones and Mohamed Salah link-up on the right. Jones' cross is eventually blocked and Watford break down the left.

Joao Pedro does really well to hold it up and gets the better of Virgil van Dijk but Liverpool get players back to support.

It's a lovely pass from Thiago, who whips it into the feet of Curtis Jones with a new-look flick.

Jones has space to shoot from outside the box but it's fired way over.

Ooof. Why not?

A long clearance over the top falls for Ismaila Sarr. Virgil van Dijk leaves him just a little too much space and Sarr has a pop on the half-volley from long range. It's a decent effort and is dipping but goes over Alisson's bar.

The Liverpool keeper probably had it covered but that's an ambitious effort from Sarr.

Virgil van Dijk plays a long, searching ball for Andy Robertson but the Scotsman won't reach it.

Liverpool have settled but are yet to create anything. Early days still of course.

Joao Pedro is waiting for it in the middle but Virgil van Dijk coolly shrugs him off it and it rolls through to Alisson.

Not the best start from Watford. It's given away to Jordan Henderson in midfield. He finds Thiago, who slips in Diogo Jota and he wins a corner.

From the set-piece, Mohamed Salah's shot is wide.

What a great sight for Liverpool fans to see Trent Alexander-Arnold out on the pitch during the warm-up. The Reds feared they could lose their influential full-back for part of the final push after a hamstring injury but he is back on the bench for this one.
