Incredible that Timo Werner has not scored a Premier League goal for six months. He's got three for Germany and found the net in both the Champions League and FA Cup since his last in the top-flight on 2 October in a 3-1 win over Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

Will he be Chelsea' hero again against the Saints?

Kyle Utterson: Ten Hag is a superb manager but he will have to be massively backed in the summer. Too many players either aren't good enough or don't care enough. Awful performance and result today but it's predictable after the season they have had.

Manchester United

Manchester United interim-manager Ralf Rangnick speaks to BBC Sport: "It's not only creativity. I think we had enough creative payers on the pitch. It's also about being physical enough in the final third, being physical and trying to score a goal. We didn't have enough players in the box."

On top four hopes: "Difficult. As long as we don't win our own games it doesn't make sense to hope for good results from the other teams.

"Fred had some muscular problems on his hip flexor. We already are without McTominay. Without both defensive midfielders it isn't good for us."

Everton

Anthony Gordon, Everton goalscorer, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "It’s very important, especially after the last result against Burnley. We were a bit disappointed of course, but for us to react with a performance and result like that is testament to us as a team.

"You’re not going to have the ball a lot, so it’s about digging in and riding out certain moments in the game. In the last 20 minutes we were gone, but there were blocks and tackles and that’s what won us the game."

On his recent form: "I’m just taking it game by game, trying to be as consistent as possible and just trying to listen to the manager and keep improving. If I go with that approach, I can’t go far wrong.

On the relegation battle: "It’s obviously a tough situation for everyone around the city, but we’re a city who sticks together. The fans I speak to are very optimistic. You heard the fans today – they were like a 12th man. They’re that little bit of adrenaline we need to keep on going.

"As I said before, we had plenty of games like this with big performances but we haven’t followed it up. It’s about winning and becoming a winning machine."

Chelsea

Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek, speaking to BBC Sport at St Mary's: "We need to bounce back from midweek and win.

"We came back from the international break and we've have had two disappointing results. Before that we were one of the best defensive teams in the world.

"We will think about other games after today. All our focus is on today."

Leeds United have won all three of their top-flight matches against Watford, having done the double the only other time they were in the top tier together in 1999-2000.

Watford have won each of their last three home matches against Leeds in all competitions.

The most recent match was a 1-0 victory in the FA Cup fifth round in 2016.

Manchester United

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, speaking to BT Sport: "We knew before today they were struggling and how difficult it was going to be.

"We don’t score, we don’t even create proper chances to score. I don’t know what to say, to be honest. We’re not good enough, that’s for sure. It’s going to be very difficult now to be in the top four.

"Of course it’s not the perfect atmosphere. They were tired, they were nervous, but they keep going and keep fighting. They had more desire than us, which is not acceptable. It’s very sad to lose today."

Both sides probably come into this game more in hope than expectation.

After the Brentford and Real Madrid defeats, the focus is on a Chelsea team that needs to re-engineer its performances for that run to stop.

Southampton will wonder if their on-off form can be stopped to keep them on track for at least a mid-table finish.

This was a great tweet from Watford earlier this week as 74-year-old manager Roy Hodgson unleashed his inner Kevin de Bruyne with an inch-perfect pass to get an assist for Joao Pedro in training.

Hodgson will be hoping for similar passes today from his starting 11.

Former Gunner Danny Welbeck has scored in each of his last three top-flight appearances against Arsenal.

It's been a bad week for Chelsea, who have conceded seven goals in two home defeats, against Brentford and Real Madrid. I don't think anyone expected that, especially the 4-1 loss to the Bees.

I am expecting a reaction from Thomas Tuchel's side, though. Southampton are awkward opponents but Chelsea have a point to prove.

Sometimes you need a freshness - Leeds have been relentless in how they play they've never deviated from that. Maybe it is just a tweak that they've needed. Jesse Marsch is a highly impressive coach, the way he goes about things so I think h will be a good fit for Leeds in the long term.

There wasn't a whole lot wrong with Leeds so just a little tweak to the idea of how they play. The pressing is there and the Leeds fans expects that and it's something that Marsch wants as well but maybe he just does it from a different structure.

Manchester United

Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick, speaking to BT Sport, says: "If you don't score a single goal in 95 minutes we have to be disappointed. We had a good start and should have created more chances out of that domination. Then we concede a deflected shot and lost a bit of our composure.

"The second half we were trying to add creativity with substitutions but we didn't always take the right decision.

"We had to do something. We needed a goal and we decided to bring Mata and more verticality with Elanga. They were defending with their players in the last 35 minutes. We didn't find the right player at the right moment. We didn't have enough players in the box when we played crosses."

Are talks about a new manager distracting? "I don't think this should be an excuse. We are Manchester United. We have lots of international players. There shouldn't be an alibi. There will be a new manager next season. If this is announced now or in 10 days it shouldn't have an impact."

Brighton have recorded 21 0-0 draws since they joined the Premier League in 2017-18, more than any other side.

They have only scored once in seven games - a 2-1 loss at Newcastle on 5 March.

Watford have lost every game at home since they beat Manchester United 4-1 here in November. A damning statistic for both of those teams.

Five of Watford’s last eight games are at home. Brentford, Burnley and Everton are all still to travel to Vicarage Road. It *should* provide encouragement, but the reality is very different.

Everton

Fabian Delph, Everton midfielder, speaking to BT Sport: "Coming off the back of the last game there was a lot of disappointment. Heads were down, as you’d expect. We came into it with a good game plan. We had to stick together at times, but we did that and got the three points.

"We expected them to have chances. They’re a top team with top players. It was about sticking together and riding the storm, and we managed to do that. It’s a massive relief for the players, management and everyone associated with Everton."

On Frank Lampard's message at half-time: "Just to stay in the game. We finally felt compact. We knew they were going to dominate the ball, so it was about staying compact, communicating and riding that wave."

On his own performance and fitness: "It was good for me to get out there. I’m always wanting to help the lads. It was good to do that today, but I don't think I'll train for a week!"

On the relegation scrap: "It’s a massive fight. One game at a time. We’re not going to get carried away. The next game is about getting points on the table, that’s our main focus and to stay up."
