NMP: United made possibly the worst CB pairing in the PL look like prime Maldini and Nesta. Please send Rangnick away and announce who the new Manager is going to be. The players need someone to play for. The others can leave, if that's what they want.

    Everton

Everton's goalscorer Anthony Gordon speaking to BT Sport: "You can see by the results we get here. We definitely feed off the fans and are a better team with them. They are a top team with top players at the front end of the pitch so we did really well to keep a clean sheet.

"The gaffer always says you make your own luck by working hard and winning the ball back. I made my own luck with a bit of hard work.

"I can only speak for myself but I'm really sore and have had a few kicks."

  6. 'Ideal game to bounce back'published at 14:36 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Arsenal v Brighton (15:00 BST)

    Mark Lawrenson
    BBC football expert

Arsenal kind of reverted to type in their defeat by Crystal Palace on Monday because they didn't just lose, they got taken apart.

That must be a worry for Gunners boss Mikel Arteta, but this looks like the ideal game for his side to bounce back.

Brighton ended their run of six consecutive defeats with a draw at Norwich last time out but they still can't score goals. They won't be rolled over, but I don't see them getting anything here.

    Prediction: 2-0

  7. 'We have the capability'published at 14:35 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Watford v Leeds (15:00 BST)

    Vicarage RoadImage source, Getty Images

It's a massive game at Vicarage Road today as Watford fight to get a vital three points in their bid to avoid relegation to the Championship.

The Hornets will start and finish the day in the relegation zone but a win would also drag Leeds back into the scrap to stay up.

“Every game you go into it from point zero – they want to win and have the capabilities of winning the game, as they have shown recently by winning two matches back to back,” said Watford manager Roy Hodgson.

“But we want to win too and believe we have the capability. It is a question of having prepared the team as best as we can to help them face the challenges Leeds are going to pose.

“We have got to hope we can bring it off on the day and give that performance which we need if we're going to get points.”

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel: "It needs to stop [Chelsea's poor run] and it doesn't feel good. We have to work hard for it and refocus.

"If you concede seven in two games you know the results [are not good]. Of course it has come as a shock because we showed no signs of weakness before the international break.

"We went into the international break and things are upside down. Things are a bit strange. But we are on it and trying to get the hunger and determination back."

  9. Storm clouds at Chelseapublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    Southampton v Chelsea (15:00 BST)

The sun might be shining over St Mary's Stadium but don't be fooled. There are storm clouds gathering at Chelsea - Southampton's opponents today - after back-to-back defeats to Brentford and Real Madrid.

Having lost the Carabao Cup final, Thomas Tuchel's side trail Premier League leaders Manchester City by 14 points and they face exiting the Champions League - the competition they won last season - unless they can overturn a 3-1 deficit away to Real Madrid on Tuesday.

There was a jazz band playing 'When the Saints Go Marching In' when Chelsea's players stepped off the team coach. There weren't too many happy faces though as they headed for the away dressing room.

Lots still to come. We've got three games kicking off in just under half an hour:

    Arsenal v Brighton

    Southampton v Chelsea

    Watford v Leeds

We'll start building up to those but stick around for more reaction from Goodison Park.

  11. 'The fans have something to shout about today'published at 14:31 British Summer Time 9 April 2022

    FT: Everton 1-0 Man Utd

    James McFadden
Former Everton forward on BBC Radio 5 Live

The result is the most important thing but the things that have been questioned of Everton - character, defensive capabilities, the ability to see out a performance - they were all on show today.

Jordan Pickford was outstanding, Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey have both come in for a lot of criticism but they were excellent, difficult to beat, putting blocks in. Great performances all over the pitch for Everton, a fantastic result but there's still a lot to be done. What they've shown is that they can perform at home and the fans will get behind them - it would be easy of the fans to turn today and wait to be entertained but they didn't, they turned up in numbers and they've got something to shout about today.

United were poor but Everton hardly played well either, a huge deflected goal which was extremely lucky. Hilarious people saying United will get relegated next season.

Incredible! You should see the scenes here, remarkable to beat Manchester United under this sort of pressure! Nobody gave them a chance after that defeat in the week - what a special afternoon of football.

For Anthony Gordon to get that goal - yes it was deflected but forget about Manchester United, this is all about Everton.

They know there's still work to do but this was a great stride towards their campaign.
