Liverpool midfielder Thiago, speaking to Sky Sports: "When we have these attackers in front of us and you see not only how they score but in defensive situations they want to get involved. It makes us perform.

"I can't be the one to judge my performance. It is one of the strongest performances at Anfield. We are not worried about where the goals come from. We are happy with all the strikers and how we play."

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah: "In midfield they make our life easier. We have a clean sheet here and there. Once we get the first goal, we want the second and the third. It was a top performance by us and hopefully we continue.

"I score many goals for this club. Sometimes you have bad luck. The most important thing is the team winning. We just need to focus on ourselves and the rest is not in our hands."

Former Liverpool midfielder Graeme Souness, speaking on Sky Sports: "Under pressure Manchester United just couldn't keep the ball. If you come to Anfield and want to have any chance of getting a result you have to be able to keep the ball and they just couldn't do that.

"This is a truly fabulous Liverpool team and they are on the brink of true greatness.

"There isn't a Mancherster United player that would get in this Liverpool team. United are a truly enormous club but how far they've been allowed to drift was exposed tonight."

Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane: "It's not anger now, it's sadness. There are no leaders, they lack quality. There is disarray at the club from the top. Before their post-match interview, the Sky interviewer has just said to Mo Salah about Thiago, "he's alright isn't he?". Thiago's response: "Well, somebody has to work for him!"

It was a totally dominant display from Liverpool.

The first half was excellent. They were a little bit slack at the start of the second half but again they changed the tempo and in the end it was comfortable.

They looked like they wanted to score more but if you had offered them 4-0 at the start of the night they would have been absolutely delighted.

The game ends with Diogo Dalot nearly putting a Liverpool corner into his own net.

For the second time this season, Liverpool hammer Manchester United. 9-0 on aggregate. This win takes them top of the table, for 24 hours at least.

Mohamed Salah is onside as he is sent in behind the United defence. He takes a touch too many, though, and a United defender is back to out the ball behind.

That would have been a second hat-trick this season against United for the Egyptian.

Ashic: I'm glad Salah got another. Does the scoreline justice. I say that as a man utd fan. Solskjaer was reprimanded even after a decent job of team building. The reason fans aren't all over Rangnick is because they can't be bothered anymore, just like the players.

It's great pressure to win the ball back. It's probably one of the only times Mohamed Salah has managed to get away from Aaron Wan-Bissaka in this second half.

It is no less than Liverpool deserve for their performance tonight. It has been emphatic tonight.

It's another Liverpool rout of Manchester United. The gulf in class is undeniable.

The Reds are going top of the Premier League. United will have to lick these wounds and battle as best they can for those European spots.
