If you're Welsh and you're listening - now you can breathe.

They were put under a huge amount of pressure in the opening 25 minutes but they're in the game now.

Iran still look better in transition but Wales can calm down a bit now. The high press is not happening but I think they've managed to cope with it.

  2. Wales need Joe Allen's brainpublished at 34 mins

    Wales 0-0 Iran

    Chris Bevan
BBC Sport at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, Qatar

We just saw an example of why Iran are often able to come striding right through the centre of the pitch unopposed.

Ethan Ampadu was over by the right touchline supporting Connor Roberts in possession and Aaron Ramsey decided to make one of his trademark runs forward, beyond Kieffer Moore. The pass didn't come, Iran won the ball back... and there was no Wales midfielder in the centre-circle (or even near it) defending that key territory just in case that happened.

This is why Danny Gabbidon was desperate for Joe Allen to start. Wales need him to sit in there, and use his brain to know where to be, and when.

It's fine for Wales to play this attacking way but your defence has also got to be prepared for the counter-attack, and at the moment they're just not playing with any discipline.

In light of Daf and Jess' observations... Joe Allen comes on at half-time and changes the game.

    Calling it now.

The problem the midfield are having is that they are just not disciplined enough in their structure. Ethan Ampadu and Aaron Ramsey were so high then that the one pass took them both out of the game.

We have to figure out who is our holding midfielder and how are the others working off of that.

This opening half an hour will have done nothing for Welsh fans' blood pressure.

Wales' midfield is just as porous as it was against the USA, funnily enough as it's the same midfield.

Robert Page's men look threatening when they play with width but worryingly vulnerable through the middle again.

A poor shot from Gareth Bale when he had better options around him.

That about sums up how this half has unfolded for Wales.

They started well, but it has been a struggle since.

Bit torn as an England fan. My heart wants Wales to do well but my head knows that a draw means England top the group by beating USA and can rest players. Also don't fancy us needing a result against Wales

    Tom

To everyone who moans about VAR, imagine if we didn't have it and that goal had been allowed to stand. Really poor from the linesman.

    Ian

If Iran win this and the USA beat England later then Wales beat England in last game while the US/Iran draw both England and Wales could end up out yet

    Paul

    That's a cheery thought Paul.

Wales look very vulnerable when Iran are on the counter-attack and that's where they need to be so much more disciplined when they've got possession.

  13. Wales are not in control herepublished at 27 mins

    Wales 0-0 Iran

    Chris Bevan
BBC Sport at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, Qatar

Wales have had 63% of the possession but there is no way you would say they have got control of this game. Iran just won't stop hassling them when they are on the ball, even in the Welsh penalty area. When they win it back, they look super-dangerous running forward.

Good defending from Joe Rodon, who just manages to out-muscle Sardar Azmoun who looked like he might burst clear.

I think Wales just need to settle down now, they're just rushing things, forcing things we don't need to do that. We need to find some composure.

Too many silly passes and this is going to punish us. We've got no discipline at all.

Take a touch, take a second and think before you pass it. They're not doing that at all, everything is so rushed.

  19. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Wales 0-0 Iran

Wales are giving the ball away far too much.

They can't continue to concede possession. This time, of all people, Gareth Bale is the culprit.

Iran test Wales with a freekick after Ethan Ampadu was forced into a foul, but Sardar Azmoun heads wide.

    Another warning for Wales.

I want to see Wales having more faith in their ability when they've got the ball. They're too frantic, they're getting rid of the ball too quickly and that's when we lose possession.
