Well, after all the excitement of Iran, this is very much a return to what many feared England would produce at this tournament. It's slow, directionless stuff.

When England miss out a man and don't play the simple ball they get through, whether that is through the lines or with the switch.

Just on Harry Kane, the England captain has barely featured in the attacking third.

England must find a way to get him involved high up the pitch.

Mason Mount's touch lets him down at the crucial moment as a flicked pass from Harry Kane loops into his stride. Better control and he could have set up a promising attack.

Tyler Adams. Brilliant. Bukayo Saka is away down the right but the Leeds midfielder charges back and times his tackle to perfection. Fire extinguished.

Harry Kane has faded from this game, Raheem Sterling isn't really in it. Mason Mount is trying but failing to make an impact. Too many England players not influencing the game.

The US look so much more menacing and purposeful when they come forward.

Christian Pulisic carries the ball into the England half. Haji Wright's shot is blocked before Weston McKennie fires over from range.

It's a familiar pattern.

The USA pick up where they left off. Antonee Robinson is worked into space on the left but his cross is headed away.

USA will only want a bit more composure in front of goal.

England are in need of far more than they showed in the first half.

We have been quite negative about England and their performance hasn't been where they would have wanted.

But, as John Murray said at the start, they will want a clean sheet tonight and they've got that so far.

They will be thinking they've got a platform to improve.

For Foden not to be playing is a massive shame. I think he is our best talent by a mile in this country, he should be playing in this team.

USA have got a bounce in their step. They've got players who play in some of the biggest leagues in the world for a reason.

They have approached the game like they are underdogs but they want to show everyone what they can do.

If they had a Harry Kane on their side they would probably be two goals up, they have lacked composure.

England haven't won any of their last five World Cup matches when the game has been scoreless at HT (D4 L1), with their last such victory coming against Ecuador in the 2006 tournament (1-0).

After the Iran game England would have come into this game full of confidence so I don't think we can used tired legs as an excuse. We have come today thinking we had a great victory and try and play our way through the game.

England are playing too slow. When they've upped the tempo they've got in. It is too laboured and too slow at the moment. They need to quicken and sharpen it up. They might need to introduce a Foden or Grealish.
