Please bring Forden and Grealish on at half time. Dying of boredom, Gareth.

    Will, London

England need to wake up! Invited all the lads over to mine and they won't come back if it's always this boring. More in this than just a game, my social life is at stake!

    David, Bournemouth

England have turned up with no passion, no energy, no pace and no idea. First organised team we face and suddenly look very ordinary. Mount, Saka, Bellingham have been very quiet.

    HT: England 0-0 USA

    Micah Richards
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

I thought England were average at best. They have been sloppy. In possession they have been too slow and it needs John Stones and Harry Maguire to step into midfield with the ball to create the space and draw the USA strikers towards them. There has been too many sidewards passes.

It is almost like England have come to the game and expected to win. The midfield has been non-existent. USA probably deserve to be ahead if I'm honest.

  3. 'An uncomfortable half for England'published at 19:54 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2022

    Rob Green
Former England goalkeeper on BBC Radio 5 Live

You do watch USA wondering where the composure is going to come from. It doesn't. It is just them saying "I am going to go" and it makes it uncomfortable for England. It has been an uncomfortable half.

When England have looked to step forward and dominated they have, but when they've taken a step back they've struggled

The USA shaded the first half in terms of the quality of chances created, with Weston McKennie squandering their best opportunity (the biggest purple circle).

England's xG was 0.36 in the first half compared to the USA's 0.43.

Plenty for Gareth Southgate to ponder.

When England move the ball quickly in the final third they cause the USA problems.

    England 0-0 USA

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Al Bayt Stadium

England were very poor until those couple of late threats. There has been a real lack of urgency. This has been very laboured and manager Gareth Southgate has work to do in this half-time interval as England are in a serious World Cup game here and USA have been the better team.

USA have found their way into the game. They looked all at sea at the game. They weren't getting the press or dropping right either.

The game is in the balance. England can play better than this. They'll be saying that and "go out and prove it".

    Hmmmmm.

The US will be far happier, albeit also feeling they should be ahead.

England need to regroup and reassess this.

That is a good save from Turner. It was hit with real power from Mason Mount.

Awful corner. Swung straight into the hands of Matt Turner.

AHA: Are England out for a Sunday stroll? Everything is low energy. Passing the ball, closing down, restarting from a free kick or throw in.

Terry: Did England forget to set the alarm clocks today? They are a bit late to the party that's for sure. Come on England, the game has kicked off you know.

Josh: Foden and Rashford on at half time. Stick Gallagher on for the last 20 minutes if needed. Everything is slow and sideways right now.

That is brilliant from both flanks.

Harry Kane just didn't read the first ball from Jude Bellingham - he didn't think he'd be able to put such a good ball in. The second chance was just behind Bukayo Saka.

England are just picking their moments.

England trying to end on a high!

Mason Mount is found in space for a low shot that Matt Turner does really well to get down and push wide.

England's best attacking moment for a while.

After a move down the right fails to yield a telling final ball, Luke Shaw gathers on the left, drives in and plays a low ball that Bukayo Saka fires over the bar.

Christian Pulisic has been few and far between for Chelsea this season, but Captain America, isn't it?

England are not on the front foot.

    Another US chance.

A cross from the right is met by Christian Pulisic, but he is in a bunch of players and not renowned for his heading. The effort bobbles wide.

Gareth Southgate is sure to be very worried by this. England are getting pulled about and the US are finding the gaps too easily.

Dan: We’re looking sluggish. USA running rings around us at times. The final result will be the ultimate judge. But from where i’m sitting, we need a rethink if we’re in with a chance in this tournament.

Andy: Normal service resumed for England after the Iran game. Slow, lacking in inspiration going forward, nervy at the back. Gareth needs to try something else after half time to liven things up, perhaps Rashford for Kane.

Dunks: We look slow, lethargic and impotent. Let’s not look back tomorrow and regret not using the talent on the bench. Time to be brave. Midfield been anonymous. Rashford, Foden and Grealish all going to be a level up and proper motivated. Half time subs please.

It is clicking for the US.

Sergino Dest charges in from the right but sees his shot deflected over the England goal. Once again, Harry Maguire deals with the corner with a booming clearing header.
