England have just under 99.5% chance of progressing to the last-16 with just over 76% chance of finishing as winners of Group B according to Gracenote's latest forecasts.

Roopa Vyas, 25, from Caerphilly, outside the stadium in Qatar

It could be Wales’ last game of the World Cup or it could be “the start of a fantastic journey”.

Roopa Vyas, 25, from Caerphilly, said: “Just the occasion of the match, regardless of anything is incredible. Although, the position we are in is not ideal.”

Having flown in from Dubai, she is hoping she has arrived in Qatar for the first time to watch her country make history.

“I think I’ll cry either way (if we win or lose), she added, saying: “But it’s something I’ve always wanted to see.”

“I’m nervous as hell,” admitted Huw Owen, 27, from Mold. Obviously we are relying on other results. But anything can happen, it’s the World Cup.

“I hope and believe we can get through. I don’t care if it’s a scrappy 1-0.”

“Fingers crossed,” added Tierney Long, 23.

The Bachaspatri family, from India but now living in Qatar were hedging their bets - two in Wales colours, two in England’s.

Gerry Evans, 65, from Bridgend hopes the conditions should be more favourable than for the Iran game when he said it was “so, so warm”.

He added: “The perspiration was dripping off me, so I don’t know what it was like for the players.

“I’d like to think we can put in a performance. The last two games we were poor.

“Knowing our luck we will get a 1-0 win then Iran or the USA will win as well.”

England will be into the last 16 so long as they don't lose by four goals to Wales.

Wales must beat England and hope for a draw between the United States and Iran - or else beat England by four goals or more to be sure.

The winner of USA and Iran, if there is one, goes through.

This is going to be a superb atmosphere with the anthems and I want England to use that energy and go after Wales in the first 10-15 minutes and make a real statement.

I think what Harry Kane is doing is playing more for the team - even when he is playing for Tottenham, he seems a little but deeper and as a striker, you just want to be up there. You make the runs and if you don't get the ball, you can blame that on the midfielders.

    Wales v England (19:00 GMT)

    Chris SuttonImage source, BBC Sport

The reaction to Gareth Southgate not picking Phil Foden so far is over the top and utterly ridiculous. The bigger concern is England's overall performance here after what happened against the United States.

England have got to find their identity again and I'm confident they will do it. Meanwhile, Wales are looking for one last hurrah from their aging stars but I don't see it happening.

I predicted Wales would finish bottom of Group B, and it looks like I am going to be right.

This could end up being quite a big scoreline but I actually think England might stop when they get to three goals because they will feel sorry for the Welsh.

    Sutton's prediction: 0-3

  13. How we got here...published at 18:51 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2022

    Wales v England (19:00 GMT)

Few saw a display of such high quality coming when England took on Iran in their opening game.

But goals from five different scorers - Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka (two), Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish - gave Gareth Southgate's side the perfect start...

Wales were distinctly second best in the first half of their opening game with the USA, falling behind to Timothy Weah's fine finish.

But a much-improved display after the break brought Rob Page's side a point, courtesy of a Gareth Bale penalty...

In game two, England regressed, finding the USA too tough a nut to crack...

Wales suffered a late double sucker punch, conceding twice to lose to Iran after goalkeeper Wayne Hennessy had been sent off...

I don't think Wales have had the handbrake on in this tournament, they have just been disorganised.

We have not put a good performance in. That's what we need tonight.

I think we sit as a mid-defensive block, try to win the ball in midfield and then counter-attack.

That's where our success has come in the past.

Queues out the door at the University of Lincoln, where students in Towers bar have gathered to watch the game.

Here in Lincoln there are few Welsh supporters but plenty of passionate England ones.

And with recent World Cup and European successes for England, there’s anticipation among these students that England will beat Wales and go on deep into this tournament.

Right now the atmosphere is calm and confident as the students crowd around the many screens dotted around their student union bar.

And at next door’s Engine Shed nightclub non-students have a big screen on which to enjoy that rarest of matches: England vs Wales in a World Cup. Game on!

The fans are just happy to be here. To see Wales in a World Cup is an amazing thing and the anthem is going to be a beautiful thing again.

It's about the players then putting in the performance because the highlight of the tournament for us has probably been the fans, the anthem and the bucket hats.

Time for the players to step up.

    Wales v England (19:00 GMT)

    Dafydd Pritchard

The last man to score a winning goal for Wales against England was Mark Hughes, as a 20-year-old debutant back in 1984.

"There is that feeling of a little bit of an underdog, but we are an underdog that bites," the former Wales and Manchester City manager says.

"When we get the opportunity to give any England team a bloody nose, we are more than happy to do it."
