  1. 'It feels very difficult at the moment'published at 18:27 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Wolves

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to BBC Sport: "Always frustrating if you concede a late goal which cost us two points but we are struggling in defending at home games and to keep the shape which is needed not to concede. We started very well then in the last 10 minutes of the first half we are too offensive and don't take care of coverage. We gave counter-attacking chances away. We started very well in the second half and created chances. We scored twice then again we start to do things not in our match plan. On top of it we get punished and conceded way too many chances today throughout the whole match.

"We have to digest it and overcome it which feels very difficult at the moment. It's not for the first time this happens. We make things more difficult for ourselves so it's a lot to overcome. I think we give everything but the decisions we take we struggle in that. It is like this and we get punished for it."

On the new ownership: "No I haven't met him yet. It is of course important but out of my hands so I do not know when it will be completed."

  2. 'News does not help as sanctions not lifted'published at 18:27 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Wolves

    Chelsea

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to Sky Sports: "Of course. When you concede so late it is always disappointing. So much we have to play for and precious points. We lose two precious points. We were 1-0 up against Man Utd and lost to Everton so we're on a bad run of results and conceding too many goals. This is where we're at and we have a lot to improve.

"We lost structure and discipline. We had to take risks and needed to control the counter-attacks. We are normally very good with it. We took an offensive approach but within the structure we took too many risks and were punished for it. We got [the goals] and unfortunately we couldn't make it stay. Now we talk about other stuff than Romelu Lukaku's goals.

"We want to play the games the way we want to play and we want to be at our very best level no matter the news around the club. It was like this for many, many weeks and we had to perform in uncertain times. Now it is clearer and seems to be decided but still the situation is not finished. We want the points for us and our supporters but we didn't get it. A little bit more [news] does not help because the sanctions are not lifted. Anything that helps to clear the situation though... We suffer for a long time and struggle.

"I don't have one answer. It was a lack of risk management today. It was very dangerous to take these risks. We lacked execution of the gameplay over 90 minutes. We have to analyse the decisions we made and we have to bounce back. I have no other message than that."

  3. We were fighting right until the last minute - Hodgsonpublished at 18:26 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Watford

    Watford

Watford manager Roy Hodgson speaking to Match of the Day: "It wasn't the result we wanted but I think we were rather hard done by because the players are convinced that Hassane Kamara was pushed in the back and that's what provoked the penalty decision. But I don't feel hard done by by the team's performance. I thought they did extremely well against a very good Crystal Palace team and we remained competitive right to the end. Given our situation, I think that's a sterling effort from the players."

On whether he felt relegation was inevitable: "I don't think so. I think after missing our chances in those three home games we realised we were making life extremely hard for ourselves. But anyone who'd like to say there was an inevitability about our outcome and that the players had resigned themselves to the fact that they're going to go down then they haven't watched today's game. It gave no indication of that whatsoever and we were fighting right until the last minute to try to get an equaliser.

"I still think today there are signs that the players have taken on board a lot of the work we have done. I think the structure of the team is now as good as we can get it. There are individuals in the team who can make a difference as well. Their confidence might not be at the highest but I still think this team and this club has a lot to offer in the Premier League, but they'll first have to go through the Championship to get back."

  4. We're more confident and more solid as a team - Vieirapublished at 18:25 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Watford

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira speaking to Match of the Day: "It was a good win. I don't think it was our best performance but it was important to win and I'm happy with that result.

"To win by more you need to create chances. We created a couple in the first half but we didn't create enough in the second. We didn't move the ball quick enough to create those chances. I'm happy with the result but I wanted more from the team.

"We just have to keep challenging ourselves and keep improving. It wasn't our best performance and we managed to get the win, to control the game and we've shown improvement from the start of the season. On that side I'm really pleased because we're growing, players are getting more confidence and we are more solid as a team. Whether we get record points [tally], our performances will dictate that."

On Wilfried Zaha: "I believe that he can get more involved in our chances and he can score more goals because he's got that talent to put the ball in the back of the net."

shwanchalabi: Reply to Ade (at 18:05) - A couple of injuries like Utd are having this season, and it was Liverpool last season who everyone were happy to play against. This is a Utd side without a manager like Liverpool. Next season we will be back stronger.

  7. Brighton deservedly leadpublished at 18:21 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    HT: Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

    Michael Emons
BBC Sport at the Amex Stadium

Brighton lead at the break and they're good value for it too with Manchester United not registering a single shot on target in the opening 45 minutes at the Amex Stadium.

Ralf Rangnick's side should have defended better for the goal, scored by 20-year-old Moises Caicedo after Alex Telles failed to clear, and they were lucky that another defensive error did not see them go in 2-0 down.

It was a straight forward punt forward from home goalkeeper Robert Sanchez late in the half and France World Cup-winner Raphael Varane produced a poor first touch and that enabled Danny Welbeck to nip in and try to lob the out-of-position David de Gea.

Unfortunately for Welbeck, against his former club, he put too much on it and sent it just over the crossbar. United have been poor and Rangnick will expect much better in the second half.

Interesting how people are messaging in talking as if United have already been beaten. They will come back and win this in the second half.

I'm a Palace fan, and even I have to admire what Brighton do on the pitch. They're quick, they play an interesting style of football, they work hard for each other and they apply pressure when they don't have the ball. Basically, they're doing everything that United aren't doing right now. A very watchable side.

Cristiano Ronaldo slides in late on Lewis Dunk and is booked. He's not happy about it, and it does seem a bit harsh.

    Brighton 1-0 Man Utd

Biiiiiggg let off for Manchester United!

Raphael Varane makes a mess of trying to deal with a long hit by Robert Sanchez and plays the ball straight to Danny Welbeck, who lifts his shot over the keeper but over the goal as well.

Brighton's lead should really be more comfortable than it is. They've dominated this.

Lewis Dunk heads the ball down inside the area after a Pascal Gross free kick. The ball hits Scott McTominay on the chest but there's some shouts of handball from the Brighton fans.

Brighton are playing some beautiful football here.

A clever backheel by Solly March takes Alex Telles out of the equation and Pascal Gross crosses but can't find a team-mate.

Half time can't come soon enough for Manchester United. Their players certainly don't look to be enjoying this anywhere near as much as they did against Brentford.

Some Spurs fans scoff when Potter is mentioned as a potential or future manager. Personally, I'd love to see Tottenham play with the imagination and swagger of this Brighton side.

Liverpool supporter and enjoying our ride. It's a sign of where Utd are that everyone wants to play them now. They are just there for the taking each week. Even at their bad times previously, Utd were still feared and worried your team. This lot don't scare anyone.

I thought we'd done great beating Chelsea and ManU in successive games. Sadly though, truth is everybody beats them now.
