Sulaimon Adelekan: Manchester United have to be wary of Trossard, he has been brilliant in recent weeks, scoring Arsenal and Spurs away from home and he is brimming with confident.

RichardN: Telles immediately showing exactly what’s wrong with this #MUFC, external team by appealing for offside instead of moving to retrieve the ball which bounced kindly in his direction off Trossard.

A bit scrappy from the visitors at the moment. Brighton have made a fine start in contrast.

It's been a cloudy day on the south coast but just as we get under way the sun comes out at the Amex.

The United fans behind the goal Brighton are attacking in the first half are trying to shield their eyes from the sun and it could prove tricky too for away goalkeeper David de Gea, who doesn't have the benefit of a cap.

    Brighton 0-0 Man Utd

Manchester United academy graduate Danny Welbeck has a slither of an opportunity in the first few minutes but he can't quite connect properly with a ball into the box.

The hosts continue their bright start, however, by winning a corner. It is nicely worked, played short before Victor Lindelof has to put behind Leandro Trossard low ball.

The second corner comes to nothing.

Manchester United's players looked to be enjoying themselves against Brentford at the start of the week and it hasn't always been possible to say that this season. It will be interesting to see if they continue with the same desire and energy they showed in that game.

With Wolves fighting back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at Chelsea earlier today, that means a Manchester United win at Brighton will be enough to guarantee European football at Old Trafford next season.

Anything less than a win for United will mathematically see the end of their (albeit small) hopes of qualifying for the Champions League.

Crystal Palace's 1-0 win over Watford took the Eagles above rivals Seagulls and into ninth, but Brighton will regain ninth spot if they avoid defeat.

Graham Potter's side still have an outside opportunity of sneaking a Europa Conference League place but need to win all their last three matches to have any chance of bringing European football to the Amex for the first time.

  11. 'We want to go to Europe again'published at 17:30 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves goalkeeping coach Tony Roberts to BBC Sport: "We came back to get the point but we're disappointed we didn't win it. We had opportunities from set-pieces in the first half but this group has great spirit so to come from 2-0 down here, what a result.

"Great goal by Trincao. We see that in training every day, he just needs to do it more often in games. Tomas Oliveira came on and the ball he put in for the last goal was tremendous. What a cross! The three who came on had pace and attacked them. We well deserved the point.

"Bruno Lage was in touch and we had a chat at half time over Zoom. He is very happy as you can imagine but also disappointed we didn't get the three points.

"We want to get as high as we can. We have three tough games. We want to go to Europe again and experience it again. We have a big game on Wednesday so we need that hard work and experience to go again."

  12. 'The taste of the game is bad'published at 17:29 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Wolves

    Chelsea

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta to Sky Sports: "Very disappointing because we were leading 2-0 so to drop two points in this way is very disappointing. Of course the taste of the game is bad. We are conceding too many goals in the last couple of games which is putting us in a difficult position in the race for the Champions League. Other teams are winning and we are not getting as many points as we should. We have to get up together and have a good last few weeks. It is in our hands and we have an FA Cup final to play.

"The pressure is always there. You have to accept it. Every point is important. Now we have to start better. We used to be a solid team, now we are conceding a lot of goals. That has put ourselves in a difficult position."

On the new ownership: "The team has been completely out of the process. Our focus has been on the pitch. Of course we are disappointed not to give the first win for him. It is out of our hands so not worth wasting energy on that. Of course we have missed some fans in the stadium and there have been a couple of things but the work on the pitch cannot be excused. Our job is to train the best we can and get the results so that is why we're disappointed.

"We need to do the basics better. In the last couple of games we have conceded so many goals. The two boxes are the key areas. We scored two then conceded two at home. That is hard. Sometimes you need a 1-0 win. We have not been as sharp or as fluid as we've been before but we scored to go 2-0 and that should have been enough."

  13. '40 points might not be enough'published at 17:29 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    FT: Brentford 3-0 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl to BBC Sport: "They were the better team in and around the boxes. If you do nice things in between the two boxes it's not interesting. They have been the far better team.

"We knew how we can create but it's up to us up front to take something from the chances. Otherwise all the effort we put in is for nothing. They’ve shown how you can win a game in the moment. We're far away from having the quality to win games. That's what we have to change.

"We are struggling to score goals. It’s not only on our strikers. We have defended really poorly today.

"Forty points might not be enough [to stay up]. Two games so we have to be absolutely focused."

  15. 'We've proved we can be ruthless'published at 17:25 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    FT: Burnley 1-3 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard to BBC Match of the Day: "Very pleased. It was a realty strong away performance; we were better in every department againat a side who have taken 10 out of 12 points in a really good moment. This is a trough place to come so my players deserve a lit of credit. We have been a really strong away team in the main; when our moments come, we've proved we can be ruthless. But this was up there with our best. We've been indifferent at home, so we know what we need to work on.

"There should be a freshness about us because we only play once a week; the lads have prepared well. We're in a good place and we've got a tough game on Tuesday [against Liverpool] but we'll make a couple of changes and rest up to make sure the team is ready. It is about enjoying tonight; it puts us closer to where we want to be."

  16. Top-half troublespublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

Brighton v Man Utd (17:30 BST)

A jubilant atmosphere at Brighton, where the hosts are looking to make it four wins from their last six games.

Manchester United are winless in their last four Premier League games against opponents starting the day in the top half of the table (D2 L2).

They last had a longer winless run against such opposition between September and December 2016 under Jose Mourinho (D3 L2).

Jon: Sadly, Ralph Hasenhuttl has run out of ideas and our recent performances have been woeful. With almost a full squad to choose from, a mismanagement of tactics and team selection has cost us. The players look devoid of confidence. We could easily yet be relegated.

  18. 'The difference was the quality of finishing and defending'published at 17:21 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    FT: Brentford 3-0 Southampton

    Southampton

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl to Sky Sports: "Strange game. The quality in both boxes made the difference today. We had our chances and didn’t do anything. Simply not good enough.

"We had 19 shots on the goal. The difference was the quality of finishing and defending. It’s nice to play nice football in the box but it’s not enough for winning games. It’s why we lost today."

On chants against him from Saints fans: "I didn’t hear because I was concentrating on the game. I am responsible for everything. When I don’t put a winning team on the pitch it’s my responsibility."

  19. 'That was a special feeling'published at 17:18 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    FT: Chelsea 2-2 Wolves

    Wolves

Wolves captain Conor Coady to Sky Sports: "Incredible feeling to do it in front of our away fans and I thought we deserved more. To come back like that shows the character of the team and to score in front of the away fans like that was a special feeling.

"We've had a few weeks where we've not been good enough. I thought we could have maybe nicked it but to come away with a point was good."

On the Chelsea takeover: "It came at the wrong time really. I read it this morning and thought 'oh it would happen against us.' We had the gaffer on Zoom in the dressing room and we knew what he wanted to do. The last few weeks haven't been good enough but we stood up to it and today was a good performance.

"We had character, discipline and were compact. We love playing for our football club every single day so it was more about performance - we've spoken about that. It was important we looked at ourselves.

"It hurts players and we're human beings so you don't like to hear that [people saying Wolves won't get European football] but we looked at our performances and they weren't good enough so we can understand people's opinions."

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 Live

I felt with the momentum Burnley had they might get out of trouble, but it was a poor performance from them today.

Mike Jackson needs to pick his players up and go again.
