  1. There's a lot to come in the future - Zahapublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-0 Watford

    Crystal Palace

Palace goalscorer Wilfried Zaha: "We're very happy. We're taking every game as it comes and just glad to get the points on the board. Now we'll see how far we can get up the table.

"I haven't seen [the penalty incident] back, but I've got one job and that's to score the penalty. We need to work on punishing teams. We had a lot of possession today but didn't make the most of it. Going forward, that's something we need to work on.

"But everyone understands their job and is working together, and it starts from up front. We defend up front, so it's down to everyone.

"[A strong finish to the season] is massive. For the players that have just joined the team [this season] it gives them confidence and the team we're trying to build is very good. For the first season [under Patrick Vieira] this is what we can do so it shows there's a lot to come in the future."

It’s never nice being relegated, but you get what you deserve at the end of the season.

You can be unlucky over one or two games, but Watford haven’t been good enough. They deserve to go down.

It could be a great weekend for Manchester United's next manager.

On Sunday, Dutchman Erik ten Hag will win the Eredivisie for the third time in four full seasons with Ajax if his current club win at AZ Alkmaar and PSV Eindhoven, second and four points behind with three games left, lose at Feyenoord.

The 52-year-old will replace interim United boss Ralf Rangnick in the summer, with the German becoming Austria manager, while, in theory, still maintaining a part-time advisor role at Old Trafford. Ten Hag, understandably, has refused to talk about United to the media while he still has work to do in the Netherlands.

But once he's done with the potential title celebrations in Amsterdam, he will find a United side in urgent need of fixing.

Some bizarre decisions at boardroom level will see a host of big-name players leave on free transfers, with some others unhappy or drastically off form, including club captain Harry Maguire. When asked what squad positions needed strengthening, Rangnick's answer suggested all of them apart from goalkeeper.

The stats will make tough reading too. Even if United win their last two games, they will equal their worst points haul since 1990-91 - matching the 64 they collected in 2013-14. Drop any more points and it's their worse season points-wise in 31 years.

Ten Hag has done an incredible job at Ajax, also taking them into the Champions League semi-finals in 2019, and this season his team have scored 89 goals in 31 Eredivisie matches and only conceded 15. Will he be the man to take United back to the top? It's a tough, tough challenge.

  6. 'We dealt with the long balls'published at 17:05 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    FT: Burnley 1-3 Aston Villa

    Aston Villa

Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins: "It was a great performance; it is always difficult coming here and we dealt with their long balls really well. They didn't have many clear chances, we were good on set pieces and we scored three good goals. A lot of positives to take.

"We came here last year and went 1-0 up only to lose 3-2; they kept coming at us and we didn't deal with their long balls. We knew we had to do that and we punished them at the other end. Scoring early breaks the ice and we knew the importance of that third goal; if they scored it they'd have had momentum. It is nice to get into double figures for goals and we are hoping to get top-10.

"We need to keep the momentum going."

Brighton v Manchester United (17:30 BST)

It's been a strange old season for Brighton, but one which could still see them create club history.

Talk about unpredictable. After winning four of their first five in the league, they then failed to win for three months, then went seven unbeaten before then losing six in a row.

But, just when their fans were fearing a relegation scrap, out of nowhere they picked up superb wins on the road at Arsenal, Tottenham and Wolves to leave them dreaming of their first ever top-half finish in the top division in their 121-year history.

Their current best ever position was 13th in the old First Division in 1981-82 and at the start of this match they sit 10th in the Premier League as Graham Potter continues to work wonders on the south coast.

They've drawn away at Liverpool, drawn home and away with Chelsea, taken four points off Arsenal and won away at Spurs so can they get another memorable result against Manchester United today, a side they have only ever defeated three times in 27 meetings?

Brighton haven't won at the Amex in 2022 but beat United today, then Leeds away and, if some results go their way, their crazy season could even end in a final day home shootout with seventh-placed West Ham with a place in Europe on the line.

  10. 'Bad old ways'published at 17:01 British Summer Time 7 May 2022

    FT: Burnley 1-3 Aston Villa

    Neil Johnston
    BBC Sport at Turf Moor

After all the good work of the past two or three weeks, Burnley slumped back to their bad old ways and are in big trouble.

Caretaker Mike Jackson can only hope his players get this result and performance out of their system quickly.

The Clarets now face back-to-back away games at Tottenham and Villa before entertaining Newcastle on the final day of the season.

As for Villa, this was a great day out in the sun for their fans - many of whom are heading back next door to watch the cricket and sink a pint.
