As a Leeds fan I don't want Everton to win (or even draw) but how on earth can that red card stand when play should have been brought back for the blatant shirt pull on Richarlison and a penalty awarded to Everton. If Leeds do go down I certainly won't miss some of these terrible VAR decisions in the Championship.

How is an accidental trip a sending off but a deliberate foul in the box not a penalty?? A lack of refereeing consistency once again punishing Everton

I think Everton have gone to a 4-2-3 when they have the ball, 4-4-1 when they don't. It's going to be difficult because Brentford are holding their width. It's drawn Iwobi out on the right and Mykolenko on the left. The guys in front are going to have to put in a shift to get back in but we know they can do it

Alex Iwobi, now playing at right back, gets back to clean up after Mason Holgate misses his attempted clearance.

Good defending by Iwobi otherwise Mathias Jensen could have been in.

Abdoulaye Doucoure does well to win the ball but is then fouled by Christian Norgaard as he breaks forward. Norgaard is booked and the game has become scrappy now.

Let's just skip over Richarlison having his shirt removed in opposite penalty box shall we...

Everton are doing a lot of defending now as they re-organise with their 10 men.

Richarlison is back to help out his team-mates and wins back the ball before trying to find Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Everton win their third corner of the game but the delivery is a poor one as it doesn't beat the first man.

There's a little lull in the atmosphere and the tempo of this game now following Jarrad Branthwaite's dismissal.

  9. RED CARD FOR EVERTONpublished at 18 mins

    Everton 1-0 Brentford

But the mood changes dramatically because Everton are down to 10 men!

Jarrad Branthwaite is sent off as he is adjudged to have brought down Ivan Toney as the last man.

It will have been even more frustrating for Everton fans because Richarlison had a shout for a penalty in the move that ultimately led to the dismissal.

Just listen to that noise. It's a smart free-kick because Anthony Gordon looks like he's going to put the ball into the area where there are loads of bodies but Richarlison makes the run towards the near post, he plays a low cross and Richarlison doesn't get the best contact on it but he gets enough just to divert it into the back post and it trundles in. What a start for Everton.

The goal is now officially given to Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Ultimately the players and fans won't care who has scored it as long as they win and Everton are playing Premier League football again next season.

Where was this football all season by Everton? They are playing some lovely stuff as they look to add a quick second.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin is convinced that goal was his. Richarlison might have this one taken off him.
