Chris Petty: At the next World Cup they should award a point for each goal scored too in the groups. This should encourage more attacking football, although the amount of goalless halves in this tournament isn’t being helped by general lack of quality in most sides.
Dr Jan Itor: I think Costa Rica are gonna go home disappointed that they never gave this world Cup a real go.
Japan 0-0 Costa Rica
If it finishes like this, Japan will top Group E with four points from two games - one ahead of Spain who face Germany at 19:00 GMT.
Japan 0-0 Costa Rica
No, Japan fail to make it count. Another wasted set-piece.
This game could go on all day and I don't think we'll see a goal.

Good free-kick to give away and a clever foul from Francisco Calvo. He knew Ito was bursting into the box. It's a real sensible foul to give away.

That could have been the moment that opened the door in this game. It was a really good turn from Hiroki Ito who has only just come on. No intent to play the ball from the defender as he brings him down.
Japan 0-0 Costa Rica
Junya Ito, who has just come on for Japan, looks set to burst clean through into the box when he is clearly fouled by Francisco Calvo.
Out comes another yellow card from Michael Oliver's pocket and Japan have another great chance from a set-piece.
Will they make it count this time?
Japan 0-0 Costa Rica
Will it feel a waste if Japan don't beat Costa Rice after defeating Germany?
There's another 20-odd minutes of normal time left.

Jewison Bennette is an 18-year-old and he made his debut for Sunderland against Preston earlier this season. He really endeared himself to the Sunderland fans because he was seen travelling home with his dad on a local bus after the game.
No airs and graces.
Japan 0-0 Costa Rica
This is a big moment for Jewison Bennette. The young winger plays his club football for Sunderland. Will he make an impression?
Japan 0-0 Costa Rica
A flurry of changes.
After Japan send on Kaoru Mitoma, Costa Rica make their first changes.
Nineteen-year-old midfielder Brandon Aguilera and 18-year-old Jewison Bennette are on.

This game hasn't had the magnetism of the win against Germany but the best that Japan did muster in that one came in the closing stages. Maybe they might repeat the trick here.
Japan 0-0 Costa Rica
Poor free-kick. High and wide.

It was Celso Borges who goes in for the tackle and he is so late on Wataru Endo. A dangerous position for Japan but it is such a difficult skill to get the ball up and over the wall, and then back down again in time.
Japan 0-0 Costa Rica
This is interesting.
Wataru Endo is brought down on the edge of the box by Celso Borges who is shown a yellow card by Michael Oliver.
Will Japan take advantage and score from the free-kick?
Japan 0-0 Costa Rica
Costa Rica pretty much have everyone behind the ball inside their own half. Japan are facing a red wall and they're struggling to break it down.

I really like Kaoru Mitoma. He's a really aggressive player in the sense that he attacks people, really takes the game to defenders. It's almost a dying art but he is a sensational player.
Japan 0-0 Costa Rica
A good spell of pressure by Japan but Yuki Soma almost finds the corner flag with a wild attempt before a poor backpass puts Keylor Navas under pressure but Japan cannot take advantage.
Japan 0-0 Costa Rica
Costa Rica have been largely non-existent as an attacking force here.
They're still to register a shot on target at this tournament.
Japan 0-0 Costa Rica
In their previous game, Japan had made two shot attempts against Germany before Takuma Asano came off the bench in the 57th minute. Japan recorded nine shot attempts with Asano on the pitch. Asano himself recorded five shot attempts, including scoring the winning goal.
