Japan already recorded more shot attempts in the first five minutes of the second half (3) than in the complete first half (2).

There is just an intensity straightaway. What you're seeing from Japan is that they're not just playing square passes, they're trying to penetrate and have got in behind Costa Rica a couple of times already.

I really do wish the game had started like this.

Japan made a double change at the start of the second half.

On: Takuma Asano and Hiroki Ito.

Off: Yuto Nagatomo and Ayase Ueda.

Another chance for Japan. It's blocked this time but the first three minutes of this half have been a huge improvement on the opening 45.

It's a very dramatic save from Navas, it was straight at him but he dives and pushes it away.

The intensity has to change, especially from Japan because if they can put pressure on before the game between Spain and Germany later, that's huge.

The tempo has been poor, it's not been played with an intensity like a World Cup game.
