Nothing could separate Uruguay and South Korea in their World Cup opener in Group H despite plenty of attacking quality on show in Qatar.

In front of a vibrant crowd at the Education City Stadium, the South Koreans frustrated Uruguay but did not create many clear-cut opportunities.

Their best fell to Hwang Ui-jo, who fired over the bar in the first half, before Uruguay captain Diego Godin headed a corner against the post.

Hwang stood with his head in hands afterwards, while team-mates fell to their knees in disbelief, all in front of a group of South Korean fans behind the goal, who were in fine voice throughout.

South Korea had controlled most of the first half but Uruguay began to dominate as the game wore on and they almost won it in the final minute of normal time when Federico Valverde's long-range effort crashed off the post.

There was one last chance for Tottenham striker Son Heung-min - South Korea's star man - but he dragged his shot wide, much to the relief of the Uruguayan supporters.

The draw leaves Group H wide open, with many seeing it as a three-way battle for qualification to the knockout stages between Uruguay, South Korea and Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal.

At times South Korea were maybe too defensive but they kept a clean sheet and that is good for them.

Son Heung-min tried. He had a presence but not really the type we see at Spurs. He can only get better in this tournament, especially now he's got a game under his belt.

This was nearly a moment of magic to win it but it was not to be for Federico Valverde and Uruguay.

It was a frustrating afternoon for Darwin Nunez, he huffed and puffed but it just wasn't his afternoon.

I think that is a fair result in the end, the game just lacked quality in the final third. It was difficult for Son Heung-min who had two or three men around him.

You can see when the final whistle went every player was out on their feet as they put a lot of work into it.

I think both teams will be happy with the draw.

Uruguay twice hit the woodwork - with a Diego Godin header at the end of the first half and through Federcio Valverde's 25-yard piledriver at the end of the second.

South Korea don't have a shot on target and escape with a point.

The corner is swung in from the left but it is over the Uruguay heads and Kim Seung-gyu comfortably gathers the ball.

Federico Valverde is absolutely pumped up, fist pumps and roars galore after a well-timed strong sliding challenge.

Great shot from Federico Valverde. I think he has a touch of cramp, as soon as he had that shot he was down stretching his hamstrings.

The heat out there plays a big part as Valverde has covered every blade of grass.
