Wayne: It’s been coming, to be fair

Trevor: Oh my word! Nightmare start, but credit where it’s due, good finish.

Jon: That has sadly been coming. We've not looked good so far this evening. France have looked a level above. We had 8 players deep in the box whilst French players stayed on the edge.

You can't say France haven't deserved it...

But - and I haven't seen a replay - was there a foul on Bukayo Saka in the build-up to that?

    Now then.

England have a free-kick right on the edge of the box.

A great chance to hit straight back...

We thought it might be something special and it was. The threat is there, if you double up out wide then it leaves the space in the middle. Tchouameni had all the time and space he wanted to pick the ball up. He's picked his spot and he's hammered it into the corner.

Players tracking on the left and right, there's going to be space in the middle and there is and he takes his chance.

    It's a brilliant strike.

We've been talking about Kylian Mbappe and Ousmane Dembele, probing, causing a little problem early in the game but when it comes out to Aurelien Tcouameni, we didn't expect him to strike like this, we haven't seen this in the tournament.

    Brilliant goal.

France strike first. And what a strike!

England are on the attack and Bukayo Saka looks to be clattered by Dayot Upamecano. No foul is given and France break. They shift the ball at pace, with England scrambling. The ball is teed up for Aurelien Tchouameni, who fires his shot true and into the bottom corner of Jordan Pickford's net.

One careless loss of possession from Jordan Henderson and France are in. It comes to nothing but demonstrates England simply cannot switch off for a second.

Antoine Griezmann is taking up some good positions for France but England are doing some promising work of their own going forward.

France sit, they wait, they'll be patient, they know they've got the ability to hurt us on the break.

Argh. That's sloppy. England can't be doing that. Jordan Henderson's hospital pass to Bukayo Saka lets Adrien Rabiot charge away.

He sends the ball wide to Kylian Mbappe but he can't find Ousmane Dembele at the back post.

    Heads on, lads.

This is better from Southgate's lads. Declan Rice wins the ball and sends Harry Kane away. He lacks the pace to get away from the two France centre-backs, but it is much more proactive from England.

Luke Shaw is isolated out there and England need to adjust slightly. We thought the threat would be on the right but Ousmane Dembele is out there and threatening.

    First real chance!

France create it. They work it wide on the right and Dembele crosses for Olivier Giroud to crane his neck and steer a header on target.

It's awful this, isn't it? Football is meant to be fun to watch, not done through your fingers.
