It's a strange atmosphere at the moment.

Both sets of fans waiting for something to happen.

It must be remembered that the Al Bayt Stadium is massive, but this is one of the flattest atmospheres I've experienced so far in this tournament.

Plenty of time for that to change mind.

France come forward again. A low cross into the mixer is cut out by ban England boot.

The noise in the stadium rises as France come forward. It's a bit sloppy from England, who allow the ball to be worked to Kylian Mbappe.

He crosses but the ball is behind Olivier Giround - not that this has stopped him scoring mad goals before. This time, though, England survive and clear.

Jon: This is the sort of game where we can assess Southgate's management. Done a decent job beating teams we should be beating but this is where it counts. Hopefully he gets it right.

Luke Shaw takes and swings the ball towards Harry Maguire. A French head meets the ball but the flag is up. Maguire went a fraction early.

A really strong start by England, a confident start. England are pressing, they're going for it. France will drop and are comfortable sitting in their own half.

Once again, Phil Foden is the target for Harry Maguire after he dumps Antoine Griezmann on the ground with a fine tackle.

Foden shows neat footwork and is tripped by Ousmane Dembele.

Good intensity to the game straight away.

We're blessed to be watching some of the best players in Europe. So much creativity on the pitch, so many match winners.

For a moment it looks like Bukayo Saka might have a route through the French defence. He is held up and forced to pass to Harry Kane, whose cross is blocked.

Boos for Kylian Mbappe.

His first run sees him cut inside but he is stopped from going any further by a mass of England players.

Front to back. Harry Maguire fires a long ball forward trying to find Phil Foden. No qualms with the big, booming pass.

Pretty even spread of France and England fans here in Al Bayt Stadium.

It's certainly far from full though.

There is no doubt Morocco and Argentina are going to have the majority of the support come the semi-finals.

Kyle Walker's first act is to get ahead of Kylian Mbappe to stop the ball reaching him. More of that, please, Kyle.
